He breaks mighty men in pieces without inquiry, and makes others stand in their place.

Thus Solomon removed Abiathar from being priest unto Jehovah, to fulfill the word of Jehovah which He had spoken concerning the house of Eli at Shiloh.

Phinehas the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, has turned back My wrath from the children of Israel, because he was zealous with My zeal among them, so that I did not consume the children of Israel in My jealousy.

and it shall be to him and his seed after him a covenant of a perpetual priesthood, because he was zealous for his God, and made atonement for the children of Israel.

Then I will raise up for Myself a faithful priest who shall do according to what is in My heart and in My soul. I will build him a lasting house, and he shall walk before My anointed for all time.

Eleazar begot Phinehas, and Phinehas begot Abishua,

Uzzi begot Zerahiah, and Zerahiah begot Meraioth,

Ahitub begot Zadok, and Zadok begot Ahimaaz,

Johanan begot Azariah (it was he who served as priest in the house that Solomon built in Jerusalem),

Ahitub begot Zadok, and Zadok begot Shallum,

Azariah begot Seraiah, and Seraiah begot Jehozadak.

These are the sons of Aaron: Eleazar his son, Phinehas his son, Abishua his son,

Meraioth his son, Amariah his son, Ahitub his son,

And David with Zadok of the sons of Eleazar, and Ahimelech of the sons of Ithamar, divided them according to the office of their service.

Let his days be few, and let another take his office.
