And Joab the son of Zeruiah, and the servants of David, went out and met them by the pool of Gibeon. So they sat down, one on one side of the pool and the other on the other side of the pool.

Joab the son of Zeruiah was over the army; Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud was recorder;

And Joab was over all the army of Israel; Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and the Pelethites;

Zelek the Ammonite, Naharai the Beerothite (armorbearer of Joab the son of Zeruiah),

And David said to Joab and to the rulers of the people, Go, number Israel from Beer- sheba to Dan, and bring the number of them to me that I may know it.

to transfer the kingdom from the house of Saul, and to set up the throne of David over Israel and over Judah, from Dan to Beer-sheba.

Therefore I counsel that all Israel be assembled and gathered to you, from Dan to Beer-sheba, like the sand that is by the sea for multitude, and that you go to battle in person.

So all the sons of Israel came out, from Dan to Beer-sheba, as well as from the land of Gilead, and the congregation assembled as one man, unto Jehovah at Mizpah.

and when your herds and your flocks multiply, and your silver and your gold are multiplied, and all that you have is multiplied;

when your heart is lifted up, and you forget Jehovah your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage;

But Hezekiah did not return according to the favor shown him, for his heart had become haughty; therefore wrath was over him and over Judah and Jerusalem.

Then Hezekiah humbled himself for the haughtiness of his heart, he and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that the wrath of Jehovah did not come upon them in the days of Hezekiah.

However, regarding the ambassadors of the rulers of Babylon, who were sent to him to inquire about the wonder that had happened in the land, God left him alone, to test him, to know all his heart.

A man's pride shall bring him low; but honor shall uphold the humble in spirit.

Thus says Jehovah, Cursed is the man who trusts in man, and makes flesh his strength, and whose heart departs from Jehovah.

And so that I should not be exalted above measure by the abundance of the revelations, a thorn in the flesh was given to me, a messenger of Satan that he might buffet me, that I should not be made haughty.
