And the king and all the people with him became weary; so they refreshed themselves there.

And her husband went along with her to Bahurim, weeping behind her. And Abner said to him, Go, return. And he returned.

Nevertheless a lad saw them, and reported to Absalom. But both of them went away quickly and came to a man's house in Bahurim, who had a well in his court; and they went down into it.

And Shimei the son of Gera, the Benjamite, who was from Bahurim, hastened and came down with the men of Judah to meet King David.

And a ferryboat went across to carry over the king's household, and to do good in his eyes. And Shimei the son of Gera fell down before the king when he had crossed the Jordan.

And behold, with you is Shimei the son of Gera, the Benjamite from Bahurim, who cursed me with grievous cursing in the day when I went to Mahanaim. But he came down to meet me at the Jordan, and I swore to him by Jehovah, saying, I will not put you to death with the sword.

Now therefore, do not hold him guiltless, for you are a wise man and know what you ought to do to him; but bring his gray hair down to the grave with blood.

And the king sent and summoned Shimei, and said to him, Build yourself a house in Jerusalem and dwell there, and do not go out from there anywhere.

And Shimei said to the king, The word is good. As my lord the king has spoken, thus your servant will do. And Shimei dwelt in Jerusalem many days.

So Shimei rose up, saddled his donkey, and went to Achish at Gath to seek his slaves. And Shimei went and brought his slaves from Gath.

So the king sent and summoned Shimei, and said to him, Did I not make you swear by Jehovah, and warn you, saying, Consider to understand that on the day you go out and have gone anywhere, you shall be executed to death? And you said to me, The word I have heard is good.

The king said moreover to Shimei, You know, as your heart acknowledges, all the evil that you did to my father David; therefore Jehovah shall return your evil upon your own head.

You shall not curse God, nor curse a chief of your people.

And the Philistine said to David, Am I a dog, that you are coming to me with sticks? And the Philistine cursed David by his gods.

For they have persecuted the ones whom You have stricken, and they talk to the grief of those You pierced.

because he did not remember to show mercy, but persecuted the poor and needy man, even to kill the disheartened.

As he clothed himself with cursing as with his garment, so let it enter his body like water, and like oil into his bones.

Like a flitting bird, like a flying swallow, so the curse without cause shall not alight.

Do not curse the king, not even in your thoughts; and do not curse the rich, not even in your bedroom; for a bird of the air may carry the voice, and that which has wings shall tell the matter.

And they shall pass through it, hard-pressed and hungry; and it shall come to pass that when they shall be hungry, that they shall be enraged and curse their king and their God, and look upward.

Blessed are you when they shall revile and persecute you, and shall say every evil word against you falsely because of Me.

Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in Heaven, for in this manner they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
