For there were those who said, We, our sons, and our daughters are many; therefore let us get grain, that we may eat and live.

There were also some who said, We have mortgaged our fields and vineyards and houses, that we might buy grain because of the famine.

So Satan answered Jehovah and said, Skin for skin! Yea, all that a man has he will give for his soul.

All her people sigh; they seek bread. They have given their desirable things for food to restore life. See, O Jehovah, and look upon me, for I have become vile.

We have given the hand to Egypt, to Assyria, to be satisfied with bread.

We bring in our bread at the risk of our lives, because of the sword of the wilderness.

For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?

But no, rather, I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as refuse, that I may gain Christ

and be found in Him, not having my own righteousness, which is from the Law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith;
