1
So Jacob lifted his feet and came into the land of the sons of the East.
2
And he looked, and behold a well in the field; and behold, there were three flocks of sheep lying by it; for out of that well they watered the flocks. And a large stone was on the well's mouth.
3
And all the flocks would be gathered there; and they would roll the stone from the well's mouth, water the sheep, and put the stone back in its place on the well's mouth.
4
And Jacob said to them, My brethren, where are you from? And they said, We are from Haran.
5
And he said to them, Do you know Laban the son of Nahor? And they said, We know him.
6
And he said to them, Is he well? And they said, He is well. And behold, his daughter Rachel is coming with the sheep.
7
And he said, Behold, it is still high day; it is not the time for cattle to be gathered together. Water the sheep, and go and feed them.
8
But they said, We cannot until all the flocks are gathered together, and they have rolled the stone from the well's mouth; then we water the sheep.
9
And while he was still speaking with them, Rachel came with her father's sheep, for she was tending them.
10
And it came to pass, when Jacob saw Rachel the daughter of Laban his mother's brother, and the sheep of Laban his mother's brother, that Jacob went near and rolled the stone from the well's mouth, and watered the flock of Laban his mother's brother.
11
And Jacob kissed Rachel, and lifted up his voice and wept.
12
And Jacob told Rachel that he was her father's relative and that he was Rebekah's son. So she ran and told her father.
13
And it came to pass, when Laban heard the report about Jacob his sister's son, that he ran to meet him, and embraced him and kissed him, and brought him to his house. So he told Laban all these things.
14
And Laban said to him, Surely you are my bone and my flesh. And he stayed with him a month of days.
15
And Laban said to Jacob, Because you are my relative, should you therefore serve me for nothing? Tell me, what shall your wages be?
16
Now Laban had two daughters: the name of the elder was Leah, and the name of the younger was Rachel.
17
Leah's eyes were delicate, but Rachel had a beautiful figure and a beautiful appearance.
18
And Jacob loved Rachel; so he said, I will serve you seven years for Rachel your younger daughter.
19
And Laban said, It is better that I give her to you than that I should give her to another man. Stay with me.
20
So Jacob served seven years for Rachel, and they were only a day in his eyes because of the love he had for her.
21
And Jacob said to Laban, Give me my wife that I may go in to her, for my days have been fulfilled.
22
And Laban gathered together all the men of the place and made a feast.
23
And it came to pass in the evening, that he took Leah his daughter and brought her to him; and he went in to her.
24
And Laban gave his maid Zilpah to his daughter Leah as a maidservant.
25
And it came to pass in the morning, that behold, it was Leah. And he said to Laban, What is this you have done to me? Was it not for Rachel that I served you? Why then have you deceived me?
26
And Laban said, It is not done so in our country, to give the younger before the firstborn.
27
Fulfill her week, and we will give you this one also for the service which you will serve with me yet another seven years.
28
And Jacob did so and fulfilled her week. So he gave him his daughter Rachel as wife also.
29
And Laban gave his maid Bilhah to his daughter Rachel as a maidservant.
30
And Jacob also went in to Rachel, and he also loved Rachel more than Leah. And he served with him yet another seven years.

Judah is a lion's whelp; from the prey, my son, you have gone up. He bows down, he crouches like a lion; and as a lioness, who shall rouse him?

The scepter shall not depart from Judah, nor a Lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh comes; and to Him shall be the cleansing of the peoples.
11
Binding His donkey to the vine, and His donkey's colt to the choice vine, He has washed His garments in wine, and His clothes in the blood of grapes;
12
His eyes flashing with wine, and His teeth white with milk.
13
Zebulun shall dwell by the seashore; he shall become a haven for ships, bordering Sidon.
14
Issachar is a strong donkey, lying down between two burdens.
15
He saw that the resting place was good, and that the land was pleasant. He bowed his shoulder to bear a burden, and became a servant to forced labor.
16
Dan shall judge his people as one of the tribes of Israel.
17
Dan shall be a serpent by the way, an adder by the path, that bites the horse's heels so that its rider shall fall backward.
18
I have waited for your salvation, O Jehovah.
19
Gad, a troop shall attack him, but he shall attack their heel.
20
Bread from Asher shall be rich, and he shall produce kings' delicacies.
21
Naphtali is a deer let loose; he utters beautiful words.
22
Joseph is a fruitful bough, a fruitful bough by a spring; his branches have run over the wall.
23
The archers have bitterly grieved him, shot at him and carried animosity against him.
24
But his bow remained steadfast, and the arms of his hands were made nimble by the hand of the Mighty One of Jacob; from the Shepherd, the Stone of Israel,
25
by the Mighty God of your father who will help you, and by the Almighty who will bless you with blessings of the heavens above, blessings of the deep that lies beneath, blessings of the breasts and of the womb.
26
The blessings of your father have prevailed above the blessings of my ancestors, to the bounds of the enduring hills. They shall be upon the head of Joseph, and upon the crown of the head of him who was separate from his brothers.
27
Benjamin is a ravenous wolf; in the morning he shall devour the prey, and at night he shall distribute the spoils.
28
All these are the twelve tribes of Israel, and this is what their father spoke to them. And he blessed them; he blessed each one according to his own blessing.

And he charged them and said to them: I am about to be gathered to my people. Bury me with my fathers in the cave that is in the field of Ephron the Hittite,
30
in the cave that is in the field of Machpelah, which is before Mamre in the land of Canaan, which Abraham bought with the field of Ephron the Hittite as a possession for a burial place.
31
There they buried Abraham and Sarah his wife, there they buried Isaac and Rebekah his wife, and there I buried Leah.
32
The field and the cave that is there were purchased from the sons of Heth.
33
And when Jacob had finished commanding his sons, he drew his feet up into the bed and expired, and was gathered to his people.

Now these are the names of the sons of Israel who came into Egypt; each man and his house came with Jacob:

When Azubah died, Caleb took Ephrath as his wife, who bore him Hur.

And Hur begot Uri, and Uri begot Bezalel.

And afterward Hezron went in to the daughter of Machir the father of Gilead, whom he had taken when he was sixty years old; and she bore him Segub.

Segub begot Jair, who had twenty-three cities in the land of Gilead.

(Geshur and Syria took from them the towns of Jair, with Kenath and its daughter- villages; sixty cities.) All these belonged to the sons of Machir the father of Gilead.

After Hezron died in Caleb Ephrathah, Hezron's wife Abiah bore him Ashhur the father of Tekoa.

The sons of Jerahmeel, the firstborn of Hezron: Ram, the firstborn, and Bunah, Oren, Ozem, and Ahijah.

Jerahmeel had another wife, whose name was Atarah; she was the mother of Onam.
27
The sons of Ram, the firstborn of Jerahmeel: Maaz, Jamin, and Eker.

The sons of Onam: Shammai and Jada. The sons of Shammai: Nadab and Abishur.

The name of the wife of Abishur: Abihail; and she bore him Ahban and Molid.
