For how shall I go up to my father if the lad is not with me, lest perhaps I see the evil that would come upon my father?

Then the woman whose son was living spoke to the king, for her womb yearned for her son; and she said, O my lord, give her the living child, and do not put him to death! But the other said, Let him be neither mine nor yours, but divide him.

For how can I endure to see the evil that will meet my people? Or how can I endure to see the destruction of my kindred?

Can a woman forget her nursing infant, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? Indeed, they may forget; yet I will not forget you.

And I will pour on the house of David, and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the Spirit of grace and supplication. And they shall look on Me whom they have pierced; and they shall mourn for Him, as one mourns for an only son, and they shall be bitter over Him, like the bitterness over the firstborn.

And he arose and came to his father. But when he was still a great way off, his father saw him and was moved with compassion, and ran and fell on his neck and kissed him.

And Esau said to his father, Have you only one blessing, my father? Bless me; me also, O my father! And Esau lifted up his voice and wept.

And Jacob kissed Rachel, and lifted up his voice and wept.

And it came about, when the Angel of Jehovah spoke these words to all the children of Israel, that the people lifted up their voices and wept.

Jehovah grant that you may find rest, each in the house of her husband. And she kissed them, and they lifted up their voices and wept.

And so it was, when David had finished speaking these words to Saul, that Saul said, Is this your voice, my son David? And Saul lifted up his voice and wept.

Then David and the people who were with him lifted up their voices and wept, until they had no more strength to weep.
