And [the governor] said to them, Go, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions to them that have nothing; for this day is holy to our Lord: and faint not, for the Lord is our strength.

So all the people departed to eat and drink, to send portions and rejoice greatly, for they understood the words which he made known to them.

Because of this the Jews dispersed in every foreign land to keep the fourteenth of Adar [as] a holy day with joy, sending portions each to his neighbor.

Give a portion to seven, and also to eight; for you know not what evil there shall be upon the earth.

Nevertheless give what is inside as alms; and see, all things are clean to you.

Then He also said to him who invited Him, "When you give a dinner or a supper, do not call your friends, nor your brothers, nor your relatives, nor rich neighbors, lest they also invite you back, and you be repaid.

and you will be blessed, because they do not have [anything] to repay you; for it will be repaid to you in the resurrection of the just."

And the Lord called again, Samuel, Samuel; and he went to Eli the second time, and said, Behold [here] [am] I, for you called me. And he said, I did not call you; return, go to sleep.

[ 24:12] And behold, the skirt of your mantle is in my hand, I cut off the skirt, and did not kill you. Know then and see this day, there is no evil in my hand, nor impiety, nor rebellion; and I have not sinned against you, yet you lay snares for my life, to take it.
