And they were gathered together to Mizpah, and they drew water, and poured it out upon the earth before the Lord. And they fasted on that day, and said, We have sinned before the Lord. And Samuel judged the children of Israel in Mizpah.

So when Ezra had prayed, and when he had confessed, weeping and praying before the house of God, a very great assembly of Israel came together to him, men and women and youths; for the people wept, and wept aloud.

A threat breaks down the heart of a wise man, but a fool, though scourged, understands not.

They went forth with weeping, and I will bring them back with consolation, causing them to lodge by the channels of waters in a straight way, and they shall not err in it: for I have become a father to Israel, and Ephraim is My firstborn.

And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the Spirit of grace and compassion: and they shall look upon Me, because they have mocked Me, and they shall make lamentation for Him, as for a beloved [friend], and they shall grieve intensely, as for a firstborn son.

Blessed are you who hunger now, for you shall be filled. Blessed are you who weep now, for you shall laugh.

and standing by His feet behind Him weeping; and she began to wash His feet with her tears, and was wiping [them] with the hair of her head; and she was kissing His feet and anointing [them] with the perfume.

For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, without regret; but worldly sorrow produces death.

Lament and mourn and weep! Let your laughter change into mourning and your joy into dejection.
