And the children of Ammon went over the Jordan to fight with Judah, and Benjamin, and with Ephraim; and the children of Israel were greatly afflicted.

And the children of Ammon went up, and encamped in Gilead; and the children of Israel were gathered together and encamped on the hill.

And the people, the princes of Gilead,said every man to his neighbor, Who is he that shall begin to fight against the children of Ammon? He shall even be head over all that dwell in Gilead.

But evil men said, Who [is] this man [that] shall save us? And they despised him, and brought him no gifts.

And the Spirit of the Lord came upon Saul when he heard these words, and his anger was greatly kindled against them.

And he took two cows, and cut them in pieces, and sent them into all the coasts of Israel by the hand of messengers, saying, Whosoever does not come forth after Saul and after Samuel, so shall they do to his oxen. And a transport from the Lord came upon the people of Israel, and they came out to battle as one man.

And the people said to Samuel, Who has said that Saul shall not reign over us? Give up the men, and we will put them to death.

The stone which the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone.

This was the Lord's doing; and it is marvelous in our eyes.

This Moses whom they denied, saying, 'Who appointed you a ruler and a judge?' This man God sent as a ruler and redeemer by the hand of the Angel who appeared to him in the bush.

"This is that Moses who said to the sons of Israel, 'The LORD our God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your brothers.

whom our fathers did not desire to be obedient, but they rejected [him] and returned in their heart back to Egypt,

But God chose the foolish things of the world in order that He might humiliate the wise, and God chose the weak things of the world in order that He might humiliate the mighty.

so that no flesh may boast before God.
