And you shall know in your heart, that as if any man should chasten his son, so the Lord your God will chasten you.

I will be to him a father, and he shall be to Me a son. And when he happens to transgress, then will I chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the sons of men.

But blessed is the man whom the Lord has reproved; and reject not the chastening of the Almighty.

For the end, A Psalm of David among the Hymns for the eighth. O Lord, rebuke me not in Your wrath, neither chasten me in Your anger.

You chasten man with rebukes for iniquity, and You make his life to consume away like a spider's web; nay, every man is disquieted in vain. Pause.

He that chastises the heathen, shall He not punish, [even] He that teaches man knowledge?

[My] son, do not despise the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when you are rebuked by Him:

for whom the Lord loves, He rebukes, and scourges every son whom He receives.

The instruction of the simple is known by them that pass by, but they that hate reproofs die disgracefully.

He that rejects instruction hates himself, but he who heeds rebuke loves his soul.

Folly is attached to the heart of a child, but the rod and instruction are [then] far from him.

Lord, in affliction I remembered You; Your chastening was to us with small affliction.

In vain have I smitten your children; you have not received correction. A sword has devoured your prophets as a destroying lion; yet you feared not.

This is the nation that has not heeded the voice of the Lord, nor received correction: truth has failed from their mouth.

Chasten us, O Lord, but with judgment; and not in wrath, lest You make us few [in number].

I have heard the sound of Ephraim lamenting, [and saying], You have chastened me, and I was chastened; I as a calf was not [willingly] taught: turn me, and I shall turn; for You [are] the Lord my God.

The dove hearkened not to the voice; she received not correction; she trusted not in the Lord, and she drew not near to her God.

But when we are judged, we are disciplined by the Lord, in order that we may not be condemned with the world.

as being unknown, and yet well known; as dying, and behold, we live; as being disciplined, and not being put to death;

And you have forgotten the exhortation which speaks to you as to sons: "My son, do not despise the discipline of the LORD, nor be discouraged when you are reproved;

It is for discipline [that] you endure; God deals with you as with sons. For what son is there whom a father does not discipline?

Furthermore, we have had human fathers who corrected us, and we respected [them]. Shall we not much more readily be in subjection to the Father of spirits and live?

Now no discipline seems to be joyful for the present, but painful; nevertheless, later it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those having been trained by it.

Blessed is the man who endures temptation; because when he is approved, he shall receive the crown of life which the Lord promised to those who love Him.

Phinehas the son of Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest has caused My wrath to cease from the children of Israel, when I was exceedingly jealous among them, and I did not consume the children of Israel in My jealousy.

and he and his seed after him shall have a perpetual covenant of priesthood, because he was zealous for his God, and made atonement for the children of Israel.

For the zeal of Your house has eaten me up; and the reproaches of them that reproached You have fallen upon me.

Then His disciples remembered that it was written, "The zeal for Your house will consume Me."

not lagging in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord;

For behold this very thing, that you sorrowed in a godly manner, how much diligence it produced in you, even an eagerness to defend, even indignation, even fear, even longing, even zeal, even vengeance! In all things you demonstrated yourselves to be pure in this matter.

But it is good to be zealous in a good thing always, and not only when I am present with you.

who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself a people as [His] own possession, zealous for good works.

Remember therefore from where you have fallen, and repent and do the first works; but if not, I am coming to you quickly and I will remove your lampstand out of its place, unless you repent.

And I gave her time so that she might repent, and she does not wish to repent of her fornication.

Behold, I am casting her into a sickbed, and those who commit adultery with her into great tribulation, if they do not repent of her works.
