And Joseph called the name of the firstborn, Manasseh; for God, [he said], has made me forget all my toils, and all my father's house.

And there were sons born to Joseph in the land of Egypt, whom Asenath, the daughter of Poti-Pherah, priest of Heliopolis, bore to him, even Manasseh and Ephraim. And there were sons born to Manasseh, which the Syrian concubine bore to him, [even] Machir. And Machir begot Gilead. And the sons of Ephraim, the brother of Manasseh [were] Sutalaam, and Taam. And the son of Sutalaam [was] Edom.

And Joseph said to his father, Not so, father; for this is the firstborn; lay your right hand upon his head.

But he shall acknowledge the firstborn of the hated one, to give to him double of all things which shall be found by him, because he is the first of his children, and to him belongs the birthright.

And Joseph saw the children of Ephraim to the third generation; and the sons of Machir, the son of Manasseh were borne on the sides of Joseph.

The sons of Mannasseh: of Machir the family of the Machirites; and Machir begot Gilead: of Gilead, the family of the Gileadites.

And the daughters of Zelophehad the son of Hopher, the son of Gilead, the son of Machir, of the tribe of Mannasseh, of the sons of Joseph, came near; and these were their names, Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah.

And a son of Machir the son of Mannasseh went to Gilead, and took it, and destroyed the Amorites who dwelt in it.

And Moses gave Gilead to Machir the son of Mannasseh, and he dwelt there.

Ephraim rooted them out in Amalek, behind you was Benjamin among your people: the inhabitants of Machir came down with me searching out the enemy, and from Zebulun came those that draw with the scribe's pen of record.

And he took Geshur and Aram, the towns of Jair from them; [with] Kenath and its towns, sixty cities. All these [belonged to] the sons of Machir the father of Gilead.

The descendants of Manasseh: Asriel, whom his Syrian concubine bore; and she bore to him also Machir the father of Gilead.

And Machir took a wife for Huppim and Shuppim, and his sister's name was Maachah; and the name of the second [son] was Zelophehad; and to Zelophehad were born daughters.

The sons of Mannasseh: of Machir the family of the Machirites; and Machir begot Gilead: of Gilead, the family of the Gileadites.

And Moses gave to them, even to the sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben, and to the half tribe of Mannasseh of the sons of Joseph, the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites, and the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, the land and its cities with its coasts, the cities of the land round about.

And Moses gave Gilead to Machir the son of Mannasseh, and he dwelt there.

And the rest of Gilead, and all Bashan the kingdom of Og I gave to the half-tribe of Manasseh, and all the country round about Argob, all that Bashan; it shall be accounted the land of Rephaim.

And to Machir I gave Gilead.
