For which cause I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands.

But I consider it right, as long as I am in this tent, to stir you up by a reminder,

I charge you therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who is going to judge the living and the dead in accordance with His appearing and His kingdom:

This I say, therefore, and testify in the Lord, that you should no longer walk as the rest of the Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind,

Finally then, brothers, we request of you and exhort [you] in the Lord Jesus, just as you received from us how you ought to walk and to please God, that you should abound more.

But we command you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you keep away from every brother living in idleness, and not according the tradition which they received from us.

I charge you before God and the Lord Jesus Christ and the elect angels that you observe these things without prejudice, doing nothing according to partiality.

I charge you before God who gives life to all things, and before Christ Jesus who witnessed the good confession before Pontius Pilate,

But shun profane and empty babblings; for they will advance to more ungodliness.

But reject foolish and ignorant disputes, knowing that they bring forth fights.

Receive one that is weak in the faith, not for disputes over opinions.

nor to pay attention to myths and endless genealogies, which cause disputes rather than godly edification which is in faith.

from which some, having strayed, have turned aside to futile talk,

he is puffed up, understanding nothing, but [is] morbidly concerned with disputes and word battles, from which come envy, strife, slanders, evil suspicions,

constant wranglings of men of corrupt minds and having been deprived of the truth, supposing that godliness is a means of profit. Withdraw from such [people].

But avoid foolish disputes and genealogies, and strifes and legal fights; for they are unprofitable and futile.

knowing that such a person has been perverted and is sinning, being self-condemned.

And turn not aside after [the gods] that are nothing, who will do nothing, and will not deliver you, because they are nothing.

The priest said not, Where is the Lord? And they that held by the law knew Me not: the shepherds also sinned against Me, and the prophets prophesied by Baal, and went after that which profited not.

if the nations will change their gods, though they are not gods: but My people have changed their glory, [for that] from which they shall not be profited.

But seeing you have trusted in lying words, whereby you shall not be profited;

O Lord, You are my strength and my help, and my refuge in days of evil. To You the Gentiles shall come from the ends of the earth, and shall say, How worthless [were the] idols [which] our fathers procured for themselves, and there is no help in them.

Therefore behold, I am against the prophets that prophesy false dreams, and have not told them [truly], and have caused My people to err by their lies, and by their errors; yet I sent them not, and commanded them not. Therefore, they shall not profit this people at all.

What profit is the graven image, that they have graven it? One has made it a molten work, a false image; for the maker has trusted in his work, to make dumb idols.

For what is a man profited if he gains the whole world, but forfeits his soul? Or what will a man give [as] an exchange for his soul?

For bodily exercise is profitable a little, but godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the present life and of the coming life.

Do not be carried away with various and strange doctrines. For it is good [for] the heart to be established by grace, not by foods, by which those having walked were not profited.

And the burden of the Lord you shall mention no more; for his own word shall be a man's burden.

[he] said, "O full of all guile and all craft, [you] son of [the] devil, [you] enemy of all righteousness, will you not cease perverting the straight ways of the Lord?

Inasmuch as we have heard that some went out from among us and troubled you with words, unsettling your souls, saying, 'that you must be circumcised and keep the law'--to whom we gave no [such] command--

which is not another; except there are certain people who trouble you and wish to pervert the gospel of Christ.
