Now to him who works, the reward is not accounted according to grace but according to debt.

But to him who does not work but believes on Him that justifies the ungodly, his faith is accounted for righteousness,

For if those who are of [the] law are heirs, faith is made void and the promise has been nullified,

Therefore it is of faith that it may be according to grace, so that the promise might be sure to all the seed, not only to those of the law, but also to those of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all,

What shall we say then? That Gentiles, who did not pursue righteousness, have attained to righteousness, even the righteousness of faith;

Why? Because [they did] not [seek it] by faith, but as it were, by the works of the law. For they stumbled the stone of stumbling.

For Moses writes about the righteousness which [is] of the law, "That the man who does those things shall live by them."

But the righteousness of faith says thus, "Do not say in your heart, 'Who shall ascend into heaven?' " (that is, to bring Christ down)

And if by grace, [it is] no longer of works; otherwise grace is no longer grace. But if [it is] of works, it is no longer grace; otherwise work is no longer work.

So you shall keep all My ordinances, and all My judgments, and do them; which if a man shall do, he shall live in them: I [am] the Lord your God.

And You testified against them, to bring them back to Your law; but they hearkened not, and sinned against Your commandments and Your judgments, which if a man does, he shall live in them; and they turned their back, and hardened their neck, and heard not.

And I gave them My commandments, and made known to them My ordinances, all which [if] a man shall do, he shall even live in them.

And I said to the house of Israel in the wilderness, Walk in My commandments: but they walked not [in them], and they rejected My ordinances, which [if] a man shall do, he shall even live in them; and they grievously profaned My Sabbaths. And I said that I would pour out My wrath upon them in the wilderness, to consume them.

So He said to him, "Why do you call Me good? No one is good except One, [that is], God. But if you want to enter into life, keep the commandments."

And behold, a certain lawyer stood up and tested Him, saying, "Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?"

So he answered and said, " 'You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind,' and 'your neighbor as yourself.'"
