And going across the island as far as Paphos, they found a certain sorcerer, a false prophet, a Jew whose name was Bar-Jesus,

Now it came to pass, as we went to prayer, that a certain slave girl, having a spirit of Python, met us, who brought much profit to her masters by fortune telling.

And this she did for many days. But Paul, being greatly annoyed and turning around, said to the spirit, "I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her." And he came out in that very hour.

And many of those who had believed were coming, confessing and disclosing their deeds.

Thus the word of the Lord was growing powerfully and prevailed.

But Pharaoh called together the wise men of Egypt, and the sorcerers, and the charmers, also of the Egyptians, [and they] did likewise with their sorceries.

And the charmers also of the Egyptians did so with their sorceries; and the heart of Pharaoh was hardened, and he did not hearken to them, even as the Lord said.

And the charmers also did so with their sorceries, to bring forth the lice, but they could not. And the lice were both on the men and on the beasts.

So the charmers said to Pharaoh, This is the finger of God. But the heart of Pharaoh was hardened, and he did not listen to them, as the Lord said.

And the sorcerers could not stand before Moses because of the sores, for the sores were on the sorcerers, and in all the land of Egypt.

And the soul that shall follow those who have in them divining spirits, or enchanters, so as to go a whoring after them; I will set My face against that soul, and will destroy it from among its people.

There shall not be found in you one who purges his son or his daughter with fire, or one who uses divination, or [one] who deals with omens, or a sorcerer

For everyone that does these things is an abomination to the Lord your God; for because of these abominations the Lord shall destroy them from before your face.

And in just the way Jannes and Jambres resisted Moses, thus also these resist the truth: men corrupted in mind, disapproved regarding the faith.

But they shall not advance further, for their folly shall be manifest to all, as also theirs became.

And he works great signs, so that he even makes fire come down from heaven on the earth before men.

And he deceives my own [people] who dwell on the earth by the signs which were given to him to do before the Beast, saying to those who dwell on the earth to make an image to the beast who had the wound--and came to life!-from the sword.

But outside are dogs and drug users and fornicators and murderers and idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices a lie.

For before these days, Theudas rose up, claiming himself to be someone, to whom was joined a number of men, about four hundred. He was slain, and all who obeyed him were scattered and came to nothing.

He who speaks from himself is seeking his own glory; but He who seeks the glory of the One who sent Him is true, and no unrighteousness is in Him.

who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God, or [every] object of worship, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.

For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,

having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from these people turn away!

For when they speak haughty [words] of emptiness, they entice through the lusts of the flesh, through lewdness, those who are escaping from those who are living in error,
