as well as Annas the high priest, Caiaphas, John, and Alexander, and as many as were of high priestly descent.

But when Paul perceived that one part was of the Sadducees and the other of the Pharisees, he cried out in the Sanhedrin, "Men, brothers, I am a Pharisee, a son of a Pharisee; concerning the hope and resurrection of the dead I am being judged!"

For the Sadducees say that there is no resurrection-nor angel nor spirit; but the Pharisees confess both.

For wrath destroys the foolish one, and envy slays him that has gone astray.

Wrath is merciless and anger sharp, but envy can bear nothing.

And I saw all labor, and all the diligent work, that this is a man's envy from his neighbor. This also is vanity and grasping for the wind.

For he knew that they had handed Him over because of envy.

envies, murders, drinking bouts, revelries, and the like; which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

But if you have bitter jealousy and strife in your heart, do not boast and lie against the truth.

For where jealousy and strife [exist], there unrest and every evil deed [are].

Or do you think that the Scripture says in vain, "The Spirit who dwells in us yearns jealously"?

Therefore having put away all malice, all guile, hypocrisy, envy, and all slanders,
