houses full of all good things which you did not fill, wells dug in the rock which you did not dig, vineyards and olive trees which you did not plant, then having eaten and been filled,

beware lest you forget the Lord your God that brought you forth out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

They that were full of bread are brought low; and the hungry have forsaken the land; for the barren has born seven, and she that abounded in children has grown feeble.

lest I be filled and become false, and say, Who sees me? Or be poor and steal, and swear vainly by the name of God.

For these have trespassed through wine; they have erred through strong drink; the priest and the prophet are mad through strong drink, they are swallowed up by reason of wine, they have staggered through drunkenness; they have erred; this is [their] vision.

Therefore thus says the Lord: Behold, My servants shall eat, but you shall hunger; behold, My servants shall drink, but you shall thirst; behold, My servants shall rejoice, but you shall be ashamed;

I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. In every place and in all [circumstances] I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to be in need.

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Because you say, 'I am wealthy, and have become rich, and have need of nothing'--and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked,

And famine shall come sorely upon you, and it shall come to pass, [that] when you shall be hungry, you shall be grieved, and you shall speak evil of the prince and of your fathers' ordinances; and they shall look up to heaven above,

But [one] shall turn aside to the right hand, for he shall be hungry; and shall eat on the left, and a man shall by no means be satisfied with eating the flesh of his own arm.

Therefore thus says the Lord: Behold, My servants shall eat, but you shall hunger; behold, My servants shall drink, but you shall thirst; behold, My servants shall rejoice, but you shall be ashamed;

And they were ridiculing Him, knowing that she had died.

Now the Pharisees, who were lovers of money, were hearing all these things, and they were mocking Him.

And He said to them, "You are those who justify yourselves before men, but God knows your hearts. Because that which is exalted among men is an abomination before God.

But I am a worm, and not a man; a reproach of men, and the scorn of the people.

All that saw Me mocked Me; they spoke with [their] lips, they shook the head, [saying],

Grief mingles not with mirth, and joy in the end comes to grief.

I said to laughter- Madness! And to mirth, Why do you do this?

Sorrow is better than laughter; for by the sadness of the countenance the heart will be made better.

As the sound of thorns under a caldron, so is the laughter of fools. This is also vanity.

neither wickedness, nor foolish talk or coarse jesting, which are not proper, but rather thanksgiving.

Lament and mourn and weep! Let your laughter change into mourning and your joy into dejection.

But God said to him, ['You] fool! This night your soul will be required of you; then whose will those things be which you have prepared?'

There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when you see Abraham and Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, but yourselves being cast out.

But the mirth of the ungodly is a signal downfall, and the joy of transgressors is destruction:

For when he shall seem to be established, then he shall utterly perish, and those that knew him shall say, Where is he?

And they remain as an unfailing flock, and their children play before [them], taking up the psaltery and harp;

And they spend their days in wealth, and fall asleep in the rest of the grave.

[Yet] he shall go in to the generation of his fathers; he shall never see light.

Therefore are my loins filled with feebleness, and pangs have seized me as a travailing woman; I dealt wrongfully that I might not hear; I hastened that I might not see.

My heart wanders, and transgression overwhelms me; my soul is occupied with fear.

The wine shall mourn, the vine shall mourn, all the merry-hearted shall sigh.

They are ashamed, they have not drunk wine; strong drink has become bitter to them that drink [it].

There is a howling for the wine everywhere; all the mirth of the land has ceased, all the mirth of the land has departed.

They drank wine, and praised the gods of gold, and of silver, and of brass, and of iron, and of wood, and of stone.

Then the king's countenance changed, and his thoughts troubled him, and the joints of his hips were loosed, and his knees knocked one another.

and I will turn your feasts into mourning, and all your songs into lamentation; and I will bring up sackcloth on all loins, and baldness on every head; and I will make them as the mourning of a beloved [friend], and those with them as a day of grief.

For [the enemy] shall be laid bare even to the foundation, and shall be devoured as twisted yew, and as stubble fully dry.

But when the king came in to see the guests, he saw a man there not dressed with wedding clothes.

Then the king said to the servants, 'Tie him up hands and feet, take him away, and cast [him] into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.'

For when they say, "Peace and safety!" then sudden destruction comes upon them, just as labor pains upon the woman that is pregnant, and they shall by no means escape.

In as many things as she glorified herself and lived luxuriously, in the same measure give to her torment and sorrow; because she says in her heart, 'I sit as queen, and am not a widow, and I shall by no means see sorrow.'

"The kings of the earth who committed fornication and lived luxuriously with her shall weep and mourn over her, when they see the smoke of her burning,

"And the merchants of the earth shall weep and mourn over her, for no one buys their merchandise anymore:
