And being in torments in Hades, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham from afar, and Lazarus in his bosom.

ZAIN. Jerusalem remembered the days of her affliction, and her rejection. [She thought on] all her desirable things which were from the days of old, when her people fell into the hands of the oppressor, and there was none to help her; when her enemies saw it, they laughed at her habitation.

And you accordingly, his son, O Belshazzar, have not humbled your heart before God: do you not know all this?

And you have exalted yourself against the Lord God of heaven; and they have brought before you the vessels of His house, and you, your nobles, your mistresses, and your concubines have drunk wine out of them; and you have praised the gods of gold, silver, brass, iron, wood, and stone, which see not, and which hear not, and know not: and the God who holds your breath in His hand and owns all your ways, you have not glorified.

In the same night Belshazzar the Chaldean king was slain.

where 'Their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched.'

"But woe to you who are rich, because you have received your consolation.

And they spend their days in wealth, and fall asleep in the rest of the grave.

Yet [such a man] says to the Lord, Depart from me; I desire not to know Your ways.

Yet He filled their houses with good things, but the counsel for the wicked is far from Him.

because of the enemies of Your hand. O Lord, destroy them from the earth; scatter them in their life, though their belly has been filled with Your hidden [treasures]; they have been satisfied with uncleanness, and have left the remnant [of their possessions] to their babes.

I saw the ungodly very highly exalting himself, and lifting himself up like the cedars of Lebanon.

Yet I passed by, and lo! He was not; and I sought him, but his place was not found.

And their tombs are their houses forever, [even] their tabernacles to all generations; they have called their lands after their own names.

Their injustice shall go forth as out of fatness; they have fulfilled their intention.

Behold, these [are] the sinners, and they that prosper always; they have possessed wealth.

For I was plagued all the day, and my reproof [was] every morning.

And I undertook to understand this, [but] it is too hard for me,

Surely You have appointed [judgments] to them because of their crafty dealings; You have cast them down when they were lifted up.

Therefore the mind of the flesh is enmity against God; for it does not submit to the law of God, nor indeed can it.

whose end is destruction, whose god is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame--who are mindful of earthly things.

Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

But there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, covered with sores, who had been placed at his gate,

These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation; but have courage, I have overcome the world."

strengthening the souls of the disciples, urging [them] to continue in the faith, [saying], "Through many tribulations we must enter into the kingdom of God."

that no one should be disturbed by these afflictions; for you yourselves know that we are appointed unto this.

choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to have the temporary pleasure of sin,

And I said to him, "My lord, you know." So he said to me, "These are those who come out of the Great Tribulation, and have washed their robes and they made them white in the blood of the Lamb.
