Then He said to them all, "If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.

For what is a man profited if he gains the whole world, and is himself destroyed or lost?

And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me.

Then Jesus said to His disciples, "If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.

For what is a man profited if he gains the whole world, but forfeits his soul? Or what will a man give [as] an exchange for his soul?

And having summoned the crowd together with His disciples, He said to them, "Whoever is willing to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.

For what shall it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and forfeits his soul?

Then Jesus, looking at him, loved him, and said to him, "One thing you lack: Go, sell all that you have, and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, take up the cross, and follow Me."

And they pressed into service a certain [man] [that was] passing by [named] Simon, a Cyrenian, the father of Alexander and Rufus, as he was coming from the country, that he might carry His cross.

And bearing His cross, He went out to a place called the Place of a Skull, which is called in Hebrew, Golgotha,

Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.

yet he has no root in himself, but is short-lived. For when tribulation or persecution comes because of the word, immediately he stumbles.

strengthening the souls of the disciples, urging [them] to continue in the faith, [saying], "Through many tribulations we must enter into the kingdom of God."

For which cause I also suffer these things; but I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed, and I have been persuaded that He is able to guard that which I have committed to Him until that Day.
