And He said to them, "You are those who justify yourselves before men, but God knows your hearts. Because that which is exalted among men is an abomination before God.

Also He spoke this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised the others:

The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, 'God, I thank You that I am not like other men--swindlers, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector.

The stranger that comes to you shall be among you as the native, and you shall love him as yourself; for you were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the Lord your God.

Then Elihu the son of Barachiel, the Buzite, of the kindred of Ram, of the land of Uz, was angered: and he was very angry with Job, because he justified himself before the Lord.

For if Abraham was justified by works, he has [grounds for] boasting, but not before God.

For they, being ignorant of the righteousness of God, and seeking to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.

But that no one is justified by the law before God is evident, for "The just shall live by faith."

You see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only.

So which of these three does it seem to you proved to be a neighbor to the man who fell among the bandits?"

"You have heard that it was said, 'You shall love your neighbor, and you shall hate your enemy.'

But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you,
