But others fell on the stony ground, where it did not have much earth; and immediately it sprang up, because it had no depth of earth.

But when the sun rose, it was scorched, and because it had no root, it withered away.

And Saul said, No man shall die this day, for today the Lord has wrought deliverance in Israel.

And all the people went to Gilgal, and Samuel anointed Saul there to be king before the Lord in Gilgal, and there he offered grain offerings and peace offerings before the Lord. And Samuel and all Israel rejoiced exceedingly.

And Joash did that which was right in the sight of the Lord all the days of Jehoiada the priest.

And King Joash called Jehoiada the chief, and said to him, Why have you not looked after the Levites, so that they should bring from Judah and Jerusalem that which was prescribed by Moses the man of God, when he assembled Israel at the tabernacle of witness?

And when they had finished [it], they brought to the king and to Jehoiada the remainder of the money, and they made vessels for the house of the Lord, vessels of service for whole burnt offerings, and gold and silver [censers]: and they offered up whole burnt offerings in the house of the Lord continually all the days of Jehoiada.

When He slew them, they sought Him; and they returned and sought diligently after God.

Yet they loved Him [only] with their mouth, and lied to Him with their tongue.

Then they believed His words, and celebrated His praise.

They made haste, they forgot His works; they waited not for His counsel.

They seek Me day by day, and desire to know My ways, as a people that had done righteousness, and had not forsaken the judgment of their God; they now ask of Me righteous judgment, and desire to draw near to God,

They approach you as a people that come together, and sit before you, and hear your words, but they will not do them; for [there is] falsehood in their mouth, and their heart [goes] after their pollutions.

And you are to them as a sound of a sweet, well-tuned psaltery, and they will hear your words, but they will not do them.

And these are similarly the [seeds] being sown on stony ground which, whenever they hear the word, immediately they receive it with joy;

and they have no root in themselves, but are shortlived. Afterward, when trials or persecution arise because of the word, immediately they fall away.

for Herod was afraid of John, knowing that he was a just and holy man, and he was protecting him. And when he heard him, he did many things, but he would hear him gladly.

He was the burning and shining lamp, and you were willing to rejoice for a while in his light.

Then Simon himself also believed; and having been baptized, he was continuing with Philip, and observing miracles and signs occurring, he was astounded.

And my trial which was in my flesh you did not despise nor disdain, but as an angel of God you received me, even as Christ Jesus.

What then was your blessing? For I bear you witness that, if possible, you would have torn out your own eyes and given them to me!
