And Moses spoke to the people, saying, Arm some of yourselves for war, and set yourselves in array before the Lord against Midian, to inflict vengeance on Midian from the Lord.

Harass the Midianites as enemies, and strike them,

for they are enemies to you by the treachery in which they ensnare you through Peor, and through Cozbi their sister, daughter of a prince of Midian, who was smitten in the day of the plague because of Peor.

In the day of vengeance I will recompense, whenever their foot shall be tripped up; for the day of their destruction [is] near to them, and the judgments at hand are close upon you.

And the people saw him, and sang praises to their god; for our god, [they said], has delivered into our hand our enemy, who wasted our land, and who multiplied our slain.

And Sampson wept before the Lord, and said, O Lord, my Lord, remember me, I pray, and strengthen me, O God, just this once, and I will be avenged of the Philistines for my two eyes.

And Sampson said, Let my wife perish with the Philistines. And he bowed himself mightily; and the house fell upon the princes, and upon all the people that were in it. And the dead whom Sampson slew in his death were more than those whom he slew in his life.

A Psalm of David for the fourth [day] of the week. The Lord is a God of vengeance; the God of vengeance has declared Himself.

How long shall sinners, O Lord, how long shall sinners boast?

Therefore thus says the Lord, the Lord of hosts, Woe to the mighty [men] of Israel; for My wrath shall not cease against My adversaries, and I will execute judgment on My enemies.

God is jealous, and the Lord avenges; the Lord avenges with wrath; the Lord takes vengeance on His adversaries, and He cuts off His enemies.

For these are the days of vengeance, to fulfill all that has been written.

Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but give place to wrath; for it is written, "Vengeance is Mine, I will repay," says the Lord.

For he is God's servant to you for good. But if you do evil, fear; for he does not bear the sword in vain; for he is God's servant, an avenger for wrath to the [one] practicing evil.

that no one should transgress against and to defraud his brother in this matter, because the Lord is the avenger concerning all, just as we told you before and solemnly testified.

For we know Him who said, "Vengeance is Mine; I will repay," says the Lord. And again, "The LORD will judge His people."

And they cried [with] a loud voice, saying, "How long, O Lord, holy and true, do You not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth?"

"Rejoice over her, O heaven, and you saints and apostles and prophets, because God has pronounced judgment for you against her!"

For true and righteous are His judgments, for He has judged the great harlot who corrupted the earth with her fornication; and He has avenged the blood of His servants [shed] by her hand."

And behold, a man of the children of Israel came and brought his brother to a Midianite woman before Moses, and before all the congregation of the children of Israel; and they were weeping at the door of the tabernacle of witness.

Now the name of the smitten Israelite man, who was smitten with the Midianite woman, [was] Zambri son of Salmon, prince of a house of the tribe of Simeon.

And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, Speak to the children of Israel, saying,

for they are enemies to you by the treachery in which they ensnare you through Peor, and through Cozbi their sister, daughter of a prince of Midian, who was smitten in the day of the plague because of Peor.

And Abraham again took a wife, whose name was Keturah.

And Jokshan begot Sheba and Dedan. And the sons of Dedan were the Assurians, the Letushim, and the Leummim.

And the priest of Midian had seven daughters, feeding the flock of their father Jethro. And they came and drew water until they filled their pitchers, to water the flock of their father Jethro.

And you shall see it, and you also shall be added to your people, as Aaron your brother was added,

But you shall depart to your fathers in peace, nourished in a good old age.

Then Abraham breathed his last, and died in a good old age, an old man and full of days, and was added to his people.

And these are the years of the life of Ishmael, one hundred and thirty-seven years; and he breathed his last and died, and was added to his fathers.

And all that generation were laid to their fathers: and another generation rose up after them, who knew not the Lord, nor yet the work which He wrought in Israel.
