And the servants of the king of Syria said, The God of Israel [is] a God of mountains, and not a God of valleys; therefore has he prevailed against us; but if we should fight against them in the plain, verily we shall prevail against them.

Then the man of God came, and said to the king of Israel, Thus says the Lord: Because Syria has said, The Lord God of Israel [is] a God of the hills, and He [is] not a God of the valleys, therefore will I give this great army into your hand, and you shall know that I [am] the Lord.

O My people, remember now, what counsel Balak king of Moab took against you, and what Balaam the son of Beor answered him, from the reeds to Gilgal; that the righteousness of the Lord might be known.

And it was morning; and Balak took Balaam, and brought him up to the pillar of Baal, and showed him from there the extent of the people.

And Balak, king of Moab, son of Siphor, rose up, and made war against Israel, and sent and called Balaam to curse us.

He loved cursing also, and it shall come upon him; and he took not pleasure in blessing, so it shall be removed far from him.

With it we bless our God and Father, and with it we curse men, who are created according to [the] likeness of God.

Out of the same mouth come blessings and curses. My brothers, these things ought not to be so.
