And Araunah looked out, and saw the king and his servants coming on before him. And Araunah went forth, and bowed down before the king with his face to the earth.

And Araunah said, Why has my lord the king come to his servant? And David said, To buy of you the threshing floor, in order to build an altar to the Lord, that the plague may be restrained from off the people.

And Araunah said to David, Let my lord the king take and offer to the Lord that which is good in his eyes: behold, [here are] oxen for a whole burnt offering, and the wheels and furniture of the oxen for wood.

Araunah gave all to the king. And Araunah said to the king, The Lord your God bless you.

And David came to Ornan, and Ornan came forth from the threshing floor, and bowed down to David with his face to the ground.

And David said to Ornan, Give me your place of the threshing floor, and I will build upon it an altar to the Lord: give it to me for its worth in money, and the plague shall cease from [among] the people.

And Ornan said to David, Take it to yourself, and let my lord the king do what is right in his eyes: see, I have given the calves for a whole burnt offering, and the plough for wood, and the wheat for a grain offering; I have given all.
24
And King David said to Ornan, No, but I will surely buy it for its worth in money- for I will not take your property for the Lord, to offer a whole burnt offering to the Lord without cost [to myself].
25
And David gave to Ornan for his place six hundred shekels of gold [by] weight.
26
And David built there an altar to the Lord, and offered up whole burnt offerings and peace offerings. And he cried to the Lord, and He answered him by fire out of heaven on the altar of whole burnt offerings, and [the fire] consumed the whole burnt offering.
27
And the Lord spoke to the angel; and he put up the sword into its sheath.
28
At that time when David saw that the Lord answered him in the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite, he also sacrificed there.
29
And the tabernacle of the Lord which Moses made in the wilderness, and the altar of whole burnt offerings, [were] at that time in the high place at Gibeon.
30
And David could not go before it to inquire of God; for he was afraid of the sword of the angel of the Lord.
