And the Lord gave deliverance to Israel, and they escaped from under the hand of Syria. And the children of Israel dwelt in their tents as before.

And the Lord had mercy and compassion upon them, and had regarded them, because of His covenant with Abraam, Isaac, and Jacob; and the Lord would not destroy them, and did not cast them out from His presence.

He recovered the coast of Israel from the entrance of Hamath to the Sea of the Arabah, according to the word of the Lord God of Israel, which He spoke by His servant Jonah the son of Amittai, the prophet of Gath Hepher.

And the Lord said that He would not blot out the seed of Israel from under heaven; so He delivered them by the hand of Jeroboam the son of Joash.

Many a time He delivered them; but they provoked Him by their counsel, and they were brought low by their iniquities.

And He remembered His covenant, and relented according to the multitude of His mercy.

But blessed is the man whom the Lord has reproved; and reject not the chastening of the Almighty.

Blessed is the man whom You shall chasten, O Lord, and shall teach him out of Your law;

[My] son, do not despise the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when you are rebuked by Him:

And you have forgotten the exhortation which speaks to you as to sons: "My son, do not despise the discipline of the LORD, nor be discouraged when you are reproved;

As many as I love, I rebuke and discipline. Be zealous therefore, and repent.

Why did the heathen rage, and the nations imagine vain things?

How long will you assault a man? You are all slaughtering as with a bowed wall and a broken hedge.

The heart is deep beyond all things, and it constitutes the man, and who can know him?

What do you devise against the Lord? He will make a complete end: He will not take vengeance by affliction twice at the same time.

who by the mouth of Your servant David have said: 'Why did the nations rage, and the people conspired vain things?

Because, having known God, they did not glorify Him as God, or give thanks, but became vain in their reasonings, and their senseless heart was darkened.

casting down imaginations and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ,
