[ 16:11] He has attacked me with the keen glances of His eyes; with His sharp [spear] He has struck me [down] upon my knees, and they have run upon me with one accord.

I gave my back to scourges, and my cheeks to blows; and I turned not away my face from the shame of spitting;

Now shall the daughter [of Zion] be completely hedged in: he has laid siege against us: they shall smite the tribes of Israel with a rod upon the cheek.

But I say to you not to resist an evil person. But whoever shall slap you on your right cheek, turn to him the other also.

Then they spat in His face, and beat Him with [their] fists; and they slapped [Him],

To him who strikes you on the one cheek, offer the other also. And from him who takes your [outer] garment, do not forbid the tunic either.

For you put up with it if someone enslaves you, if someone devours you, if someone takes from you, if someone exalts himself, if someone strikes you in the face.

For the zeal of Your house has eaten me up; and the reproaches of them that reproached You have fallen upon me.

My soul has waited for reproach and misery; and I waited for one to grieve with me, but there was none; and for one to comfort me, but I found none.

Have pity upon us, O Lord, have pity upon us; for we are exceedingly filled with contempt.
