Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.

Before ruin a man's heart is exalted, and before honor it is humble.

And it shall come to pass, when the Lord has finished doing all things on Mount Zion and Jerusalem, [that] I will visit upon the proud heart, [even] upon the ruler of the Assyrians, and upon the boastful haughtiness of his eyes.

And I will shake the inhabited cities; and I will take with My hand all the world as a nest; and I will even take them as eggs that have been left; and there is none that shall escape Me, or contradict Me.

But you have said in your heart, I will go up to heaven, I will set my throne above the stars of heaven; I will sit on a lofty mount, on the lofty mountains toward the north;

But now you shall go down to hell, even to the foundations of the earth!

And you, son of man, say to the prince of Tyre, Thus says the Lord: Because your heart has been exalted, and you have said, I am God, I have inhabited the dwelling of God in the heart of the sea; yet you are a man and not God, though you have set your heart as the heart of God.

Have you gained power for yourself by your [own] knowledge or your [own] prudence, and [gathered] gold and silver in your treasures?

Therefore thus says the Lord: Since you have set your heart as the heart of God;

and they shall bring down your beauty to destruction. And they shall bring you down; and you shall die the death of the slain in the heart of the sea.

But when his heart was lifted up, and his spirit was emboldened to act proudly, he was deposed from his royal throne, and [his] honor was taken from him.

And you have exalted yourself against the Lord God of heaven; and they have brought before you the vessels of His house, and you, your nobles, your mistresses, and your concubines have drunk wine out of them; and you have praised the gods of gold, silver, brass, iron, wood, and stone, which see not, and which hear not, and know not: and the God who holds your breath in His hand and owns all your ways, you have not glorified.

And this is the ordered writing: Mene, Tekel, Peres.

Tekel; it has been weighed in the balance, and found wanting.

Then Belshazzar commanded, and they clothed Daniel with scarlet, and put the golden chain about his neck, and proclaimed concerning him that he was the third ruler in the kingdom.

And they shall not take from you a stone for a corner, nor a stone for a foundation; for you shall be a desolation forever, says the Lord.

and shall say, Thus shall Babylon sink, and not rise, because of the evils which I bring upon it.

"On account of this her plagues will come in one day--death, sorrow, and famine. And she shall be burned with fire, for strong is the Lord God who has judged her.

And I will kindle a fire in its forest, and it shall devour all things round about it.

And I will kindle a fire in the wall of Damascus, and it shall devour the streets of the son of Ader.

For a fire has been kindled out of My wrath, it shall burn to hell below; it shall devour the land, and the fruits of it; it shall set on fire the foundations of the mountains.

And I will send a fire on the house of Hazael, and it shall devour the foundations of the son of Ader.

And I will send forth a fire on the walls of Gaza, and it shall devour its foundations.

And I will send forth a fire on the walls of Tyre, and it shall devour the foundations of it.

And I will send forth a fire upon Teman, and it shall devour the foundations of her walls.

And I will kindle a fire on the walls of Rabbah, and it shall devour her foundations with shouting in the day of war, and she shall be shaken in the days of her destruction:

But I will send forth a fire on Moab, and it shall devour the foundations of its cities, and Moab shall perish in weakness, with a shout, and with the sound of a trumpet.

And I will send a fire on Judah, and it shall devour the foundations of Jerusalem.
