by provoking Me with the works of your hands, to burn incense to other gods in the land of Egypt, into which you entered to dwell there, that you might be cut off, and that you might become a curse and a reproach among all the nations of the earth?

But since we left off to burn incense to the queen of heaven, we have all been brought low, and have been consumed by sword and by famine.

Did not the Lord remember the incense which you burned in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem- you, and your fathers, and your kings, and your princes, and the people of the land? Did it not enter into His heart?

For this city was [obnoxious] to My anger and My wrath, from the day that they built it, even to this day; that I should remove it from My presence,

And they turned their backs to Me, and not their faces; though I taught them early in the morning, but they listened no more to receive instructions,

Nevertheless they sneered at His messengers, and despised His words, and mocked His prophets, until the wrath of the Lord rose up against His people, till there was no remedy.

HETH. Jerusalem has sinned a great sin; therefore has she come into tribulation, all that used to honor her have afflicted her, for they have seen her shame: yea, she herself groaned, and turned backward.

[No], but that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to demons and not to God, and I do not desire that you should have fellowship with demons.

And what union is there for the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God, just as God has said: "I will dwell in them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they shall be My people."

They have drawn near who persecuted me unlawfully; and they are far removed from Your law.

Salvation is far from sinners; for they have not searched out Your statutes.

Yet they tempted and provoked the Most High God, and kept not His testimonies.

And [men] shall say, Because they forsook the Lord their God, who brought out their fathers from Egypt, out of the house of bondage, and they attached themselves to strange gods, and worshipped them, and served them; therefore the Lord has brought this evil upon them.

Did not your fathers [commit] this same [trespass,] and our God brought upon them and upon us and upon this city all these evils? And do you bring additional wrath upon Israel by profaning the Sabbath?

Moreover, all Israel has transgressed Your law, and have refused to heed Your voice; so the curse has come upon us, and the oath that is written in the law of Moses the servant of God, because we have sinned against Him.

And He has confirmed His words, which He spoke against us, and against our judges who judged us, [by] bringing upon us great evils, such as have not happened under the whole heaven, according to what has happened in Jerusalem.
