And Shephatiah the son of Mattan, and Gedaliah the son of Pashhur, and Jehucal the son of Shelemiah, heard the words which Jeremiah spoke to the people, saying,

Thus says the Lord: He that remains in this city shall die by the sword, and by famine. But he that goes out to the Chaldeans shall live; and his life shall be to him as a found treasure, and he shall live.

For thus says the Lord: This city shall certainly be delivered into the hands of the army of the king of Babylon, and they shall take it.

And they said to the king, Let that man be slain, for he weakens the hands of the fighting men that are left in the city, and the hands of all the people, speaking to them according to these words; for this man does not prophesy peace to this people, but evil.

Then the king said, Behold, he is in your hands. For the king could not resist them.

And they cast him into the dungeon of Malchiah the king's son, which was in the court of the prison; and they let him down into the pit: and there was no water in the pit, but mire. And he was in the mire.
Esther 7:4-6

For both I and my people have been sold for destruction, and pillage, and slavery; [both] we and our children as bondmen and bondwomen. And I consented not to it, for the slanderer [is] not worthy of the king's palace.

And the king said, Who [is] this that has dared to do this thing?

And Esther said, the adversary [is] Haman, this wicked man. Then Haman was troubled before the king and the queen.
