and [if] you give bread to the hungry from your heart, and satisfy the afflicted soul; then shall your light spring up in darkness, and your darkness [shall be] as noon day;

Neither have you given water to the thirsty to drink, but have taken away the morsel of the hungry.

(for I nourished them as a father from my youth and guided [them] from my mother's womb.)

and if the poor did not bless me, and their shoulders were not warmed with the fleece of my lambs;

He has dispersed abroad; he has given to the poor; his righteousness endures forever; his horn shall be exalted with honor.

He that has pity on the poor shall himself be maintained, for he has given of his own bread to the poor. [ 22:9A] He that gives liberally secures victory an honor, but he takes away the life of them that posses them.

If your enemy hungers, feed him; if he thirsts, give him drink;

He that gives to the poor shall not be in need, but he that turns away his eye [from him] shall be in great distress.

Send forth your bread upon the face of the water, for you shall find it after many days.

Give a portion to seven, and also to eight; for you know not what evil there shall be upon the earth.

and shall not oppress any man, [but] shall return the pledge of the debtor, and shall be guilty of no plunder, shall give his bread to the hungry, and clothe the naked;

and has not oppressed a man, and has not retained the pledge, nor committed robbery, has given his bread to the hungry, and has clothed the naked,

Therefore, O king, let my counsel please you, and atone for your sins by alms, and [your] iniquities by compassion on the poor; [perhaps] God will be longsuffering toward your trespasses.

for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in;

"Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, 'Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink?

Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?'

Nevertheless give what is inside as alms; and see, all things are clean to you.

Then Zacchaeus stood and said to the Lord, "Look, Lord, I give half of my possessions to the poor; and if I have extorted anything from anyone, I restore fourfold."

Therefore "If your enemy should hunger, feed him; if he should thirst, give him drink; for [by] doing this you will heap coals of fire upon his head."

Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

But this I say: he who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.

And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that in everything always having all sufficiency, you may abound for every good work,

Now may He who supplies seed to the sower, and bread for food, supply and multiply the seed you have sown and increase the fruits of your righteousness;

having a reputation for good works, if she has brought up children, if she has lodged strangers, if she has washed the saints' feet, if she has relieved the afflicted, if she has diligently followed every good work.

For we have much thanksgiving and encouragement over your love, because the affections of the saints have been refreshed through you, brother.

If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food,

and one of you says to them, "Go in peace, be warmed and filled," but you do not give them the necessary things of the body, what [is] the benefit?

But whoever has this world's goods, and sees his brother having need, and shuts off his compassion towards him, how does the love of God abide in him?

My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth.

take farther counsel, and continually make a shelter from grief; they flee in darkness at midday; they are amazed; do not be led captive.

The fugitives of Moab shall sojourn with you; they shall be to you a shelter from the face of the pursuer; for your alliance has been taken away, and the oppressing ruler has perished from off the earth.

And he lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, three men stood before him; and having seen them, he ran to meet them from the door of his tent, and bowed himself to the ground.

Let water now be brought, and let them wash your feet, and refresh yourselves under the tree.

Lo! My lords, turn aside to the house of your servant, and rest from your journey, and wash your feet, and having risen early in the morning you shall depart on your journey. And they said, No, but we will lodge in the street.

And the old man said, Peace be unto you; however [let] all your needs be upon me, and by no means lodge in the street.

And he brought him into his house, and made room for his donkeys; and they washed their feet, and ate and drank.

And when she and her household were baptized, she urged us, saying, "If you have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come to my house and stay." So she persuaded us.

And bringing them up into his house, he set a meal before them; and he rejoiced with his whole house, having believed in God.

sharing in the needs of the saints, pursuing hospitality.

Do not forget hospitality, for through this some have unwittingly entertained angels.

Remember the prisoners as if having been bound with them, those who are ill treated, as you yourselves are in the body also.

And the men who were called by name rose up, and took hold of the prisoners, and clothed all the naked from the spoils, and gave them garments and shoes, and gave them [food] to eat, and [oil] to anoint themselves [with], and they let everyone that was weak [to ride on] donkeys, and placed them in Jericho, the city of palm trees, with their brethren; and they returned to Samaria.

And if I too overlooked the naked as he was perishing, and did not clothe him;

"Then He will also say to those on the left, 'Depart from Me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels:

I was a stranger and you did not take Me in, naked and you did not clothe Me, sick and in prison and you did not visit Me.'

"Then He will answer them, saying, 'Assuredly I say to you, inasmuch as you did not do it to one of the least of these, neither did you do it to Me.'

He answered and said to them, "He who has two shirts, let him give to him who has none; and he who has food, let him do likewise."

And Lot went out, and spoke to his sons-in-law who had married his daughters, and said, Rise up, and depart out of this place, for the Lord is about to destroy the city; but he seemed to be speaking absurdly before his sons-in-law.

Speak in the ears of all the men of Shechem, saying, Which is better for you, that seventy men, even all the sons of Jerubbaal, should reign over you, or that one man should reign over you? And remember that I am your own flesh and bone.

And now our flesh [is] as the flesh of our brothers, our children [are] as their children. Yet behold, we are reducing our sons and our daughters to slavery, and some of our daughters are enslaved; and there is no power of our hands, for our fields and our vineyards [belong] to the nobles.

He said to him, "What is written in the law? How do you read [it]?"

And He said to him, "You have answered correctly; do this and you shall live."

Then Jesus answered and said: "A certain man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and encountered bandits, who after having stripped him of his clothing and having wounded him, departed, leaving [him] half dead.

Likewise a Levite, arriving at the place, came and saw, and passed by on the opposite side.

And coming to him, he bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine; and putting him on his own animal, he brought him to an inn, and took care of him.

So which of these three does it seem to you proved to be a neighbor to the man who fell among the bandits?"

But whoever has this world's goods, and sees his brother having need, and shuts off his compassion towards him, how does the love of God abide in him?
