But they that framed [false gods] did not then hearken; and they that engraved [images] are all vain, performing their own desires, which shall not profit them, but they shall be ashamed

Know that their heart is ashes, and they err, and no one is able to deliver his soul; see, you will not say, [There is a] lie in my right hand.

Assemble yourselves and come; take counsel together, you that escape from the nations. They that set up wood, [even] their graven image, have no knowledge, nor do they who pray to gods that do not save.

They bear it upon the shoulder, and go; and if they put it upon its place, it remains, it cannot move; and whosoever shall cry to it, it cannot hear; it cannot save him from trouble.

[Therefore r]emember these things, and groan; repent, you that have gone astray, return in your heart;

Every man is deprived of knowledge, every goldsmith is confounded because of his graven images; for he has cast false gods, there is no breath in them.

Because, having known God, they did not glorify Him as God, or give thanks, but became vain in their reasonings, and their senseless heart was darkened.

and changed the glory of the incorruptible God for a likeness of an image of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and reptiles.

For the heart of this people has become dull, and their ears are hard of hearing, and they have closed their eyes; lest they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them.

For the Lord has made you to drink a spirit of deep sleep; and He shall close their eyes, and [the eyes] of their prophets and of their rulers, who see secret things.

So I let them go after the ways of their own hearts; they will go on in their own ways.

And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah, which says: 'Hearing you shall hear and by no means understand, and seeing you shall see and by no means perceive.

For the heart of this people has become dull, and their ears are hard of hearing, and their eyes have closed, lest they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, lest they should understand with their hearts and turn back, that I should heal them.'

who in the generations having gone by permitted all the Gentiles to walk in their ways.

And just as they did not approve to have God in their knowledge, God gave them up to a reprobate mind, to do the things which are not fitting;

Just as it is written: "God has given them a spirit of stupor, eyes that they should not see, and ears that they should not hear, to this very day."

Let their eyes be darkened, so that they do not see, and their back always be bowed down."

But even if our gospel is hidden, it is hidden among those who are perishing,

among whom the god of this age has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, so that the illumination of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should not shine on them.

whose coming is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders,

And because of this, God will send them strong delusion, in order for them to believe the lie,

Yea, they are insatiable dogs, that know not what it is to be filled, and they are wicked, having no understanding; all have followed their own ways, each according to his [will].

A foolish man will not know, and a senseless man will not understand this.

then shall you understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God.

and He treasures up salvation for them that walk uprightly: He will protect their way;

Then shall you understand righteousness and judgment, equity [and] every good path.

Evil men will not understand judgment, but they that seek the Lord will understand everything.

Hear now these things, O foolish and senseless people; who have eyes, and see not; and have ears, and hear not:

Many must be tested, and thoroughly whitened, and tried with fire, and sanctified; but the transgressors shall transgress: and none of the transgressors shall understand, but the wise shall understand.

Who is wise, and will understand these things? Or prudent, and will know them? For the ways of the Lord are straight, and the righteous shall walk in them; but the ungodly shall fall therein.

Brood of vipers! How can you, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.

How can you believe, who receive glory from one another, and do not seek the glory which is from the only God?

Why do you not understand what I say? Because you are unable to hear My word.

Therefore they could not believe, because Isaiah said again:

"He has blinded their eyes and hardened their hearts, lest they should see with their eyes, lest they should understand with their hearts and turn, and I would heal them."

having eyes full of adultery and unable to cease from sin, enticing unstable souls, having a heart having been trained in greediness, they are accursed children.
