I will send My wrath against a sinful nation, and I will command My people to take plunder and spoil, and to trample the cities, and to make dust out of them.

Hear these [words], you house of Jacob, who are called by the name of Israel, and have come forth out of Judah, who swear by the name of the Lord God of Israel, making mention [of it, but] not with truth, nor with righteousness;

maintaining also the name of the holy city, and staying themselves on the God of Israel; the Lord of hosts is His name. The former things I have already declared;

They seek Me day by day, and desire to know My ways, as a people that had done righteousness, and had not forsaken the judgment of their God; they now ask of Me righteous judgment, and desire to draw near to God,

saying, Why have we fasted, and You did not see? [Why] have we afflicted our souls, and You did not know it? Nay, in the days of your fasts you find your pleasures, and all them that are under your power you wound.

A Prayer of David. Hearken, O Lord of my righteousness, attend to my petition; give ear to my prayer not [uttered] with deceitful lips.

And for all these things faithless Judah turned not to Me with all her heart, but falsely.

The Lord lives, they say; do they not therefore swear falsely?

You have planted them, and they have taken root; they have begotten children, and become fruitful; You are near to their mouth, but far from their mind.

to Jeremiah the prophet, and said to him, Let now our supplication come before your face, and pray to the Lord your God for this remnant; for we are left [but a] few out of many, as your eyes see.

And Jeremiah said to them, I have heard [you.] Behold, I will pray for you to the Lord our God, according to your words; and it shall come to pass, [that] whatsoever word the Lord God shall answer, I will declare to you; I will not hide anything from you.

They approach you as a people that come together, and sit before you, and hear your words, but they will not do them; for [there is] falsehood in their mouth, and their heart [goes] after their pollutions.

But whenever it shall come [to pass], they will say, Behold, it is come; and they shall know that there was a prophet in the midst of them.

Hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy about you, saying,

And in vain they worship Me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.'"

And Hezekiah began to reign at the age of twenty-five years, and he reigned twenty-nine years in Jerusalem: and his mother's name was Abijah, daughter of Zechariah.

And it came to pass, when he was established over his kingdom, in the first month, he opened the doors of the house of the Lord, and repaired them.

and said to them, Hear, you Levites: Now sanctify yourselves, and sanctify the house of the Lord God of your fathers, and cast out the impurity from the holy places.

And they have shut up the doors of the temple, and put out the lamps, and have not burned incense, and have not offered whole burnt offerings in the holy [place] to the God of Israel.

And behold, your fathers have been smitten with the sword, and your sons and your daughters and your wives are in captivity in a land not their own, as it is even now.

And now be not wanting [to your duty], for the Lord has chosen you to stand before Him to minister, and to be ministers and burners of incense to Him.

And of the sons of Elizaphan: Shimri, and Jehiel. And of the sons of Asaph: Zechariah and Mattaniah;

And they gathered their brethren, and they purified themselves according to the king's command by the order of the Lord, to purify the house of the Lord.

And [Hezekiah] began on the first day, on the new moon of the first month, to purify, and on the eighth day of the month they entered into the temple of the Lord. And they purified the house of the Lord in eight days. And on the thirteenth day of the first month they finished [the work].

and all the vessels which King Ahaz polluted in his reign, in his apostasy, we have prepared and purified; behold, they are before the altar of the Lord.

And he brought seven calves, seven rams, seven lambs, and seven kids of goats for a sin-offering, for the kingdom, and for the holy things, and for Israel. And he told the priests, the sons of Aaron, to go up to the altar of the Lord.

And they brought the goats for a sin offering before the king and the congregation, and laid their hands upon them.

And he stationed the Levites in the house of the Lord with cymbals, and lutes, and harps, according to the commandment of King David, and of Gad the king's seer, and Nathan the prophet; for by the commandment of the Lord the order [was] in the hand of the prophets.

And Hezekiah told [them] to offer up the whole burnt offering on the altar. And when they began to offer the whole burnt offering, they began to sing to the Lord, and the trumpets [accompanied] the instruments of David king of Israel.

And when they had done offering [it], the king and all that were present bowed down and worshipped.

Then Hezekiah answered and said, Now [that] you have consecrated yourselves to the Lord, bring near and offer sacrifices of praise in the house of the Lord. And the congregation brought sacrifices and thank offerings into the house of the Lord; and everyone who was ready in his heart [brought] whole burnt offerings.

Add not unto His words, lest He reprove you, and you be made a liar.

"Why do Your disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? For they do not wash their hands whenever they eat bread."

For God commanded, saying, 'Honor your father and your mother'; and, 'He who curses father or mother, with death let him die.'

then by no means should he honor his father or mother.' Thus you have nullified the commandment of God on account of your tradition.

Now when they saw some of His disciples eat bread with ceremonially unclean, that is, with unwashed [hands], they found fault.

And [coming] from the marketplace, unless they bathe, they do not eat. And there are many other things which they have received [by tradition], like the washing of cups and pitchers, copper vessels and couches.

And answering He said to them, "Well did Isaiah prophesy about you hypocrites, as it is written: 'This people honors Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me.

"For having left the commandment of God, you hold to the tradition of men--the washing of pitchers and cups, and many other similar things you do."

For Moses said, 'Honor your father and your mother'; and, 'Whoever speaks evil of father or mother, let him surely die.'

then you no longer allow him to do anything for his father or for his mother,

which things are all for corruption with the using, according to the commands and teaching of men?
