[If it be] that they shall sin against You, (for there is not a man who will not sin) and You shall bring them and deliver them up before their enemies, and they that take [them] captive shall carry [them] to a land far or near,

Whereas if they shall sin against You, (for there is no man who will not sin) and You shall smite them, and deliver them up before their enemies, and they that take them captive shall carry them away into a land of enemies, to a land far off or near;

For who, being a mortal, [is such] that he shall be blameless? Or [who that is] born of a woman, that he should be just?

Alas then, abominable and unclean is man, drinking unrighteousness as a draught.

If You, O Lord, should mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall stand?

And enter not into judgment with Your servant, for in Your sight shall no [man] living be justified.

Who will boast that he has a pure heart? Or who will boldly say that he is pure from sins?

All we like sheep have gone astray; everyone has gone astray in his way; and the Lord gave Him up for our sins.

for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

For we all stumble in many [ways]. If anyone does not stumble in word, he is a mature man, able also to bridle the whole body.

If we claim that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

If we claim that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.

and we have all become as unclean, and all our righteousness is as a filthy rag; and we have fallen as leaves because of our iniquities; thus the wind shall carry us [away].
