And the Ziphites came up out of the dry country to Saul to the hill, saying, Behold, is not David hidden with us in Messara, in the narrows in Caene in the hill of Echela, which is on the right of Jeshimon?

And Saul said to them, Blessed are you of the Lord, for you have been grieved on my account.

Because the sinner praises himself for the desires of his heart; and the unjust one blesses himself.

For his soul shall be blessed in his life; he shall give thanks to you when you do well to him.

Shocking and horrible deeds have been done in the land;

But Jesus answered and said to him, "Permit it now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness." Then he permitted Him.

And the populace was calling out, "[This is the] voice of a god and not of a man!"

And when he had been called, Tertullus began to accuse [him], saying: "Attaining much peace by you and successes coming about for this nation by your foresight,

But that I not weary you any longer, I beseech you to hear us briefly in your graciousness.

who, having known the righteous judgment of God, that those practicing such things are worthy of death, not only do them, but also approve of those who practice them.

They are of the world: on account of this they speak of the world, and the world hears them.

And Samuel said, What then is this bleating of sheep in my ears, and the sound of the oxen which I hear?

And Samuel said to Saul, Stay, and I will tell you what the Lord has said to me this night. And he said to him, Speak on.

And the Lord sent you on a journey, and said to you, Go, and utterly destroy: you shall slay the sinners against Me, even the Amalekites; and you shall war against them until you have consumed them.

And Saul said to Samuel, Because I listened to the voice of the people. Yet I went the way by which the Lord sent me, and I brought Agag the king of Amalek, and I destroyed Amalek.

And Samuel said, Does the Lord take [as great] pleasure in whole burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in hearing the words of the Lord? Behold, obedience is better than a good sacrifice, and hearkening than the fat of rams.

And Saul said to Samuel, I have sinned, in that I have transgressed the word of the Lord and your direction; for I feared the people, and I listened to their voice.

And he answered the king, and said, And who is there among all your servants as faithful as David, and he is a son-in-law of the king, and he is executor of all your commands, and is honorable in your house?

Have I begun today to inquire of God for him? By no means: let not the king bring a charge against his servant, and against any of my father's house, for your servant knew not in all these matters anything great or small.

And Elijah said, I do not pervert Israel; but it is you and your father's house, in that you forsake the Lord your God, and you have gone after the Baals.

And Elijah drew near to them all. And Elijah said to them, How long will you halt on both feet? If the Lord is God, follow Him; but if Baal, follow him. And the people answered not a word.

And he hastened to take away the bandage from his eyes; and the king of Israel recognized him, that he was one of the prophets.

And he said to him, Thus says the Lord: Because you have allowed this man appointed to destruction to escape out of your hand, therefore your life shall go for his life, and your people for his people.

And you shall speak to him, saying, Thus says the Lord: Forasmuch as you have slain and taken possession, therefore thus says the Lord, In every place where the swine and the dogs have licked the blood of Naboth, there shall the dogs lick your blood; and the harlots shall wash themselves in your blood.

And Ahab said to Elijah, Have you found me, O my enemy? And he said, I have found [you]; because you have wickedly sold yourself to work evil in the sight of the Lord, to provoke Him to anger;

And Micaiah said, Not so, [it is] not I: hear the word of the Lord: I saw the God of Israel sitting on His throne, and all the host of heaven stood about Him on His right hand and on His left.

And there came forth a spirit and stood before the Lord, and said, I will deceive him.

And now, behold, the Lord has put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these your prophets, and the Lord has spoken evil against you.

And Micaiah said, Behold, you shall see in that day, when you shall go into an innermost chamber to hide yourself there.

and tell Joash the king's son to put this [fellow] in prison, and to feed him with bread of affliction and water of affliction, until I return in peace.

And Elisha said to the king of Israel, What have I to do with you? Go to the prophets of your father, and the prophets of your mother. And the king of Israel said to him, Has the Lord called the three kings to deliver them into the hands of Moab?

And Elisha said, [As] the Lord of hosts lives, before whom I stand, unless I regarded the presence of Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, I would not have looked on you, nor seen you.

And my heart took counsel within me, and I contended against the nobles, and the princes, and I said to them, Should every man demand of his brother what you demand? And I appointed against them a great assembly,

And I said, The thing which you do is not good; you will not so walk in the fear of our God because of the reproach of the Gentiles our enemies.

Restore to them, I pray, as at this day, their fields, and their vineyards, and their olive yards, and their houses, and bring forth to them grain and wine and oil of the money.

And I shook out my garment, and said, So may God shake out every man who shall not keep to this word, from his house, and from his labors, he shall be even thus shaken out, as an outcast and empty. And all the congregation said, Amen, and they praised the Lord; and the people did this thing.

And it appeared very evil to me; so I cast forth all the furniture of the house of Tobiah from the treasury.

And I understood that the portion of the Levites had not been given; and they had fled everyone to his field, the Levites and the singers doing the work.

And I strove with the free children of Judah, and said to them, What [is] this evil thing which you do, and profane the Sabbath day?

And it came to pass, when the gates were set up in Jerusalem, before the Sabbath, that I spoke, and they shut the gates; and I gave orders that they should not be opened till after the Sabbath. And I set [some] of my servants at the gates, that none should bring [in] burdens on the Sabbath day.

And in those days I saw the Jews who had married women of Ashdod, of Ammon, [and] of Moab.

And I strove with them and cursed them; and I struck some of them, and plucked off their hair, and made them swear by God, [saying,] You shall not give your daughters to their sons, and you shall not take of their daughters to your sons.

But seeing many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said to them, "Brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath?

For John said to him, "It is not lawful for you to have her."

Therefore when there arose a serious dissension and debate with Paul and Barnabus, they determined that Paul and Barnabas and some others of them should go up to the apostles and elders in Jerusalem concerning this issue.

But when some became hardened and disbelieving, speaking evil against the Way before the multitude, he withdrew from them and separated the disciples, each day debating in the school of a certain Tyrannus.

But not even Titus who was with me, although he was a Greek, was compelled to be circumcised;

to whom not even for an hour did we yield in subjection, that the truth of the gospel might remain with you.

And have no partnership with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose [them].

But suffering before and being spitefully treated at Philippi, just as you know, we were bold in our God to speak to you the gospel of God with much conflict.

Beloved, while I was very diligent to write to you about our common salvation, it became necessary to write to you exhorting you to earnestly contend for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints.
