On account of this he is obligated to offer for sins, just as concerning the people, so also concerning himself.

And no man takes this honor for himself, but he that is called by God, just as Aaron also [was].

So also Christ did not glorify Himself to become High Priest, but it was He who said to Him: "You are My Son, Today I have begotten You."

Just as He also says in another place: "You are a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek";

who, in the days of His flesh, when He had offered up both prayers and supplications, with strong crying and tears to the [One] who was able to save Him from death, and was heard because of His fear of God,
8
though He was a Son, He learned obedience by the things which He suffered.
9
And having been perfected, He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him,
10
having been designated by God a High Priest "according to the order of Melchizedek,"
11
concerning whom we have much to say, and it is hard to explain, since you have become sluggish in hearing.

For indeed, although you ought to be teachers by this time, again you have need [for someone] to teach you what are the elements of the beginning of the oracles of God; and you have come to need milk and not solid food.

For everyone who partakes of milk is unacquainted with the word of righteousness, for he is an infant.

But solid food is for the mature, for those because of their practice have their senses trained for the distinguishing of both good and evil.
Hebrews 7:3
without father, without mother, without genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but having been made like the Son of God, remains a priest continually.

Hebrews 7:17-24

Hebrews 8:1-10
1
Now this is the main point of the things being said: We have such a High Priest, who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens,

a Minister of the sanctuary and of the true tabernacle which the Lord set up, and not man.
3
For every high priest is appointed to offer both gifts and sacrifices; therefore it is necessary [for] this One also to have something to offer.
4
For if He were on earth, He would not be a priest, since there are priests who offer the gifts according to the law;
5
who serve a copy and shadow of the heavenly things, just as Moses had been warned when he was about to complete the tabernacle, for He says, "See, you shall make all things according to the pattern shown to you on the mountain."
6
But now He has obtained a more excellent ministry, inasmuch as He is also Mediator of a better covenant, which has been enacted upon better promises.
7
For if that first [covenant] had been faultless, then no place would have been sought for a second.
8
For finding fault [with] them, He says: "Behold, the days are coming, says the LORD, when I will establish a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah,
9
not according to the covenant which I made with their fathers, in the day when I took their hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt. Because they did not persevere in My covenant, and I disregarded them, says the LORD.
10
For this is the covenant which I shall covenant with the house of Israel after those days, says the LORD: I will put My laws in their mind, and I shall inscribe them upon their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.
