Speak also to the children of Israel, saying, Take heed and keep My Sabbaths; [for] they are a sign between Me and you throughout your generations, that you may know that I am the Lord that sanctifies you.

Six days you shall work, but on the seventh day you shall rest. [There shall be] rest in seed time and in harvest.

And it came to pass on the seventh day that some of the people went forth to gather, and found none.

And the Lord said to Moses, How long are you unwilling to heed My commands and My law?

And the children of Israel were in the wilderness, and they found a man gathering sticks on the Sabbath day.

And they placed him in custody, for they did not determine what they should do to him.

And all the congregation brought him forth out of the camp; and all the congregation stoned him with stones outside the camp, as the Lord commanded Moses.

Then they returned and prepared spices and perfumes. And they rested on the Sabbath, according to the commandment.

but on the seventh day [is] the Sabbath of the Lord your God: you shall do in it no work, neither you, your son, your daughter, your male servant, your female servant, your ox, your donkey, your livestock, nor the stranger that sojourns in the midst of you; that your male servant may rest, and your maid and your ox, as well as you.

And you shall remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt, and the Lord your God brought you out from there with a mighty hand, and an outstretched arm; therefore the Lord has commanded you to keep the Sabbath day, and to sanctify it.

And you shall not afflict a stranger, for you know the heart of a stranger; for you yourselves were strangers in the land of Egypt.

But in the seventh year you shall let it rest, and leave it, and the poor of your nation shall feed; and the wild beasts of the field shall eat that which remains; thus shall you do to your vineyard and to your olive grove.

And you shall rejoice before the Lord your God, you and your son, and your daughter, your male servant and your female servant, and the Levite, and the stranger, and the orphan, and the widow which dwells among you, in whatsoever place the Lord your God shall choose, that His name should be called there.

And you shall remember that you were a servant in the land of Egypt, and you shall observe and do these commands.

You shall not unjustly withhold the wages of the poor and needy of your brothers, or of the strangers who are in your cities.

The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, and the sons shall not be put to death for the fathers; everyone shall be put to death for his own sin.

And you shall remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt, and the Lord your God redeemed you from there; therefore I command you to do this thing.

And if you should gather your olives, you shall not return to collect the remainder; it shall be for the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, and you shall remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt; therefore I command you to do this thing.

And [as for] the people of the land who bring wares and all [manner of] merchandise to sell on the Sabbath day, we [will] not buy from them on the Sabbath or on the holy day; and we will leave the seventh year, and the exaction of every debt.

In those days I saw in Judah [men] treading wine-presses on the Sabbath, and carrying sheaves, and loading donkeys with wine, grapes, figs, and every [kind of] burden, and bringing them into Jerusalem on the Sabbath day.

And I strove with the free children of Judah, and said to them, What [is] this evil thing which you do, and profane the Sabbath day?

And it came to pass, when the gates were set up in Jerusalem, before the Sabbath, that I spoke, and they shut the gates; and I gave orders that they should not be opened till after the Sabbath. And I set [some] of my servants at the gates, that none should bring [in] burdens on the Sabbath day.

Then I testified against them, and said to them, Why do you lodge in front of the wall? If you do so again, I will stretch out my hand upon you. From that time they came not on the Sabbath.
