A Song of Degrees. Many a time have they warred against me from my youth, let Israel now say:

The sinners wrought upon my back: they prolonged their iniquity.

And I will give it into the hands of them that injured you, and them that afflicted you; who said to your soul, Bow down, that we may pass over; and you laid your body to the ground to them passing by outside.

And now thus says the Lord God that made you, O Jacob, and formed you, O Israel, Fear not; for I have redeemed you, I have called you [by] your name; you are Mine.

And if you pass through water, I am with you; and the rivers shall not overflow you; and if you go through the fire, you shall not be burned; the flame shall not burn you.

strengthening the souls of the disciples, urging [them] to continue in the faith, [saying], "Through many tribulations we must enter into the kingdom of God."

that no one should be disturbed by these afflictions; for you yourselves know that we are appointed unto this.

For even when we were with you, we were telling you in advance that we were going to be afflicted, just as it also happened, and you know.

to deliver their souls from death, and to keep them alive in famine.

And He brought me up out of a pit of misery, and from miry clay; and He set my feet upon a rock, and established my steps.

And He put a new song into my mouth, [even] a hymn to our God; many shall see [it] and fear, and shall hope in the Lord.

And He has also enticed you out of the mouth of the enemy:

But Abraham said, 'Child, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, and likewise Lazarus bad things, but now here he is comforted and you are suffering.

Indeed we count those blessed who endure. You have heard of the patience of Job, and you saw the end of the Lord--that He is compassionate and He is merciful.

And I said to him, "My lord, you know." So he said to me, "These are those who come out of the Great Tribulation, and have washed their robes and they made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

They shall neither hunger anymore nor thirst anymore; nor shall the sun by any means strike them, nor any scorching heat;

He turns a wilderness into pools of water, and a dry land into streams of water.

And they sow fields, and plant vineyards, and they yield a fruitful harvest.

Then shall the lame man leap as a deer, and the tongue of the stammerers shall speak plainly; for water has burst forth in the desert, and a channel [of water] in a thirsty land.

And the dry land shall become pools, and a fountain of water shall [be poured] into the thirsty land; there shall there be a joy of birds, ready habitations and marshes.
