For the end. Destroy not; by David for a memorial, when Saul sent, and watched his house to kill him. Deliver me from my enemies, O God; and ransom me from those that rise up against me.

Then David attacked Hadadezer the son of Rehob king of Zobah, as he went to extend his power to the River Euphrates.

out of Edom and out of Moab, and from the children of Ammon, and from the Philistines, and from Amelek, and from the spoils of Hadadezer son of Rehob king of Zobah.

And David made [himself] a name. And when he returned he struck Edom in Gebelem to [the number of] eighteen thousand.

And Hadadezer sent and gathered the Syrians from the other side of the River Halamak, and they came to Helam; and Shobach the captain of the army of Hadadezer [was] at their head.

And David defeated Hadadezer king of Zobah of Hamath, as he was going to establish power toward the River Euphrates.

And Abishai son of Zeruiah killed eighteen thousand of the Edomites in the Valley of Salt.

And he put garrisons in the valley; and all the Edomites became David's servants, and the Lord delivered David wherever he went.

And the Syrians saw that Israel had defeated them, and they sent messengers, and they brought out the Syrians from beyond the river; and Shophach the commander-in-chief of the forces of Hadadezer [was] before them.

And the Syrians fled from before Israel; and David slew of the Syrians seven thousand [riders in] chariots, and forty thousand infantry [men], and he slew Shophach the commander-in-chief of the forces.

He killed ten thousand of the Edomites in the Valley of Salt, and took Sela in the war, and called its name Joktheel to this day.

And Amaziah strengthened [himself], and took his people, and went to the Valley of Salt, and killed ten thousand of the children of Seir there.

Will not You, O God, who has cast us off? And will not You, O God, go forth with our forces?

But now You have cast off, and put us to shame; and You will not go forth with our hosts.

[A Psalm] of instruction, of Asaph. Why have You rejected [us], O God, forever? [Why] has Your wrath been kindled against the sheep of Your pasture?

But You have cast off and set at nought, You have rejected Your anointed.

Will not You, O God, who have rejected us? And will not You, O God, go forth with our armies?

And now, [my] son Solomon, know the God of your fathers, and serve Him with a perfect heart and a willing soul; for the Lord searches all hearts, and knows every thought: if you seek Him, He will be found by you; but if you should forsake Him, He will forsake you forever.

I say then, has God cast away His people? Certainly not! For I am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin.

God has not cast away His people whom He foreknew. Or do you not know [what the Scripture says] in Elijah, how he pleads with God against Israel, saying,

Slay them not, lest they forget Your law; scatter them by Your power; and bring them down, O Lord, my defender.

And they fought with them; and the men of Israel fell, and they fled, every man to his tent. And there was a very great slaughter; and there fell of Israel thirty thousand fighting men.

And the ark of God was taken, and both the sons of Eli, Hophni and Phineas, died.

And they young man answered and said, The men of Israel fled from the face of the Philistines, and there was a great slaughter among the people, and both your sons are dead, and the ark of God has been taken.

And the men of Israel saw that they were in a strait so that they could not draw near, and the people hid themselves in caves, sheepfolds, rocks, ditches, and pits.

And they that went over crossed the Jordan to the land of Gad and Gilead. And Saul was still in Gilgal, and all the people followed after him in amazement.

And Samuel said, What have you done? And Saul said, Because I saw how the people were scattered from me, and that you were not present as you purposed, according to the set time of the days, and the Philistines were gathered to Michmash.

And there was not found a blacksmith in all the land of Israel, for the Philistines said, Lest the Hebrews make themselves swords or spears.

And it was near the time of vintage. And their tools were [valued at] three shekels for a plow share, and there was the same rate for the ax and the sickle.

And the Philistines fought with Israel. And the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and they fell down wounded in the mountain in Gilboa.

And the battle prevailed against Saul, and the archers found him, and wounded him below his ribs.

And his armorbearer saw that Saul was dead, and he also fell upon his sword, and died with him.

And the men of Israel who were on the other side of the valley, and those beyond the Jordan, saw that the men of Israel fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead; and they forsook their cities and fled. And the Philistines came and dwelt in them.

Help us, O God our Savior; for the glory of Your name, O Lord, deliver us; and be merciful to our sins, for Your name's sake.

I made a covenant with My chosen ones, I swore unto David My servant.

God is glorified in the council of the saints; great and terrible toward all that are round about Him.

Then You spoke in a vision to Your children, and said, I have laid help on a mighty one; I have exalted one chosen out of My people.

Turn us, O God of our salvation, and turn Your anger away from us.

Return, O Lord! How long? And have compassion concerning Your servants.

For the Lord will not reject forever.

CHAPH. For He that has brought down will pity, and that according to the abundance of His mercy.

And I will strengthen the house of Judah, and save the house of Joseph, and I will settle them; because I have loved them: and they shall be as if I had not cast them off: for I am the Lord their God, and I will hear them.
