Your wife shall be as a fruitful vine on the sides of your house; your children as young olive-plants round about your table.

Behold, thus shall the man be blessed that fears the Lord.

And Rachel, having perceived that she bore Jacob no children, was jealous of her sister; and said to Jacob, Give me children; and if not, I shall die.

And Jacob was angry with Rachel, and said to her, Am I in the place of God, who has deprived you of the fruit of the womb?

And Esau looked up and saw the women and the children, and said, What are these to you? And he said, The children with which God has mercifully blessed your servant.

And Joseph called the name of the firstborn, Manasseh; for God, [he said], has made me forget all my toils, and all my father's house.

And he called the name of the second, Ephraim; for God, [he said], has increased me in the land of my humiliation.

and said to me, Behold, I will increase you, and multiply you, and will make of you a multitude of nations; and I will give this land to you, and to your seed after you, for an everlasting possession.

Blessed shall be the offspring of your body, and the fruits of your land, and the herds of your oxen, and the flocks of your sheep.

And I took your father Abraham from the other side of the river, and I guided him through all the land, and I multiplied his seed;

and I gave to him Isaac, and to Isaac Jacob and Esau: and I gave to Esau Mount Seir for him to inherit. And Jacob and his sons went down to Egypt, and became there a great and populous and mighty nation, and the Egyptians afflicted them.

And they rose early in the morning, and worshipped the Lord, and they went their way. And Elkanah went into his house at Ramathaim, and knew his wife Anna; and the Lord remembered her, and she conceived.

And it came to pass when the time had come, that she brought forth a son, and called his name Samuel, and said, Because I asked him of the Lord God of Sabaoth.

For I have prayed for this child; and the Lord has given me my request that I asked of Him.

And Eli blessed Elkanah and his wife, saying The Lord recompense to you decendants from this woman, in return for the loan which you have lent to the Lord. And the man returned to his place.

And the Lord visited Anna, and she bore yet three sons, and two daughters. And the child Samuel grew before the Lord.

And of all my sons, (for the Lord has given me many sons) He has chosen Solomon my son, to set him on the throne of the kingdom of the Lord over Israel.

Behold I and the children which God has given me; and they shall be [for] signs and wonders in the house of Israel from the Lord of hosts, who dwells in Mount Zion.
