And God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night, and there was evening and there was morning, the first day.

The day is Yours, and the night is Yours; You have prepared the sun and the moon.

To Him who alone made great lights; for His mercy [endures] forever.

The sun to rule by day; for His mercy [endures] forever.

Praise Him, sun and moon; praise Him, all you stars and light.

Let them praise the name of the Lord; for He spoke, and they were made; He commanded, and they were created.

Where were you when I founded the earth? Tell me now, if you have knowledge.

I know then that you were born at that time, and the number of your years is great.

What! Are you the first man that was born? Or were you established before the hills?

through the tender mercy of our God, with which the Dayspring from on high has visited us;

And we have the prophetic word made more sure, which you do well to heed, as a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts;
