For the terror of which I meditated has come upon me, and that which I had feared has befallen me.

I was not at peace, nor quiet, nor had I rest; yet wrath came upon me.

And I said, My age shall continue as the stem of a palm tree; I shall live a long while.

We assembled for peace, but there was no prosperity; for a time of healing, but there was anxiety.

Have You utterly rejected Judah? And has Your soul departed from Zion? Why have You stricken us, and there is no healing for us? We waited for peace, but there was no prosperity; for a time of healing, and behold trouble!

Why do they that grieve me prevail against me? My wound is severe; when shall I be healed? It has indeed become to me as deceitful water that has no faithfulness.

Who has begun [to act] for good to her that dwells in sorrow? For calamities have come down from the Lord upon the gates of Jerusalem,

His light [shall be] darkness in [his] habitation, and his lamp shall be put out with him.

Let [one] drive him from light into darkness.

For I knew not that darkness would come upon me, and thick darkness has covered me before my face.

Light has sprung up for the righteous, and gladness for the upright in heart.

Who is among you that fears the Lord? Let him hearken to the voice of His servant; you that walk in darkness, and have no light, trust in the name of the Lord, and stay upon God.
