And my life is lighter than a word, and has perished in vain hope.

But my life is swifter than a post: [my days] have fled away, and they knew it not.

Or again, is there a trace of [their] path [left] by ships? Or is there one of the flying eagle as it seeks its prey?

I said in the end of my days, I shall go to the gates of the grave; I shall part with the remainder of my years.

[ 16:5C] All of the works of the Lord [are done] with righteousness, and the ungodly [man] is kept for the evil day.

[There are] many thoughts in a man's heart, but the counsel of the Lord abides forever.

Whatsoever your hand shall find to do, do with all your might; for there is no work nor device nor knowledge nor wisdom in Hades, where you are going.

And whatever counsel you shall take, the Lord shall bring it to nought; and whatever word you shall speak, it shall not stand among you; for God is with us.

Who has thus spoken, and it has come to pass? The Lord has not commanded it.

Now I do not want you to be ignorant, brothers, that often I planned to come to you (and I was hindered until now), that I might have some fruit among you also, just as among the other Gentiles.

And in this confidence I intended to come to you earlier, that you might have a second benefit,

Therefore, when I decided this, did I do it lightly? Or the things I decide, do I decide according to the flesh, that there may be with me "Yes, Yes," and "No, No?"

Come now, you who say, "Today and tomorrow let us travel to this city, and let us spend a year there, and let us trade and make a profit"--

Instead you ought to say, "If the Lord wills, we shall live and do this or that."
