Thus has judged Rehum the chancellor, and Shimshai the scribe, and the rest of our fellow servants, the Dinaites, the Apharsathchites, the Tarpelites, the people of Persia, the Erech, the Babylonians, the Shushan, the Dehavites,

Then the king sent to Rehum the chancellor, and Shimshai the scribe, and the rest of their fellow servants who dwelt in Samaria, and the rest beyond the river, [saying,] Peace; and he said,

[This is] the copy of a letter which Tattenai, the governor of the part on this side the river, and Shethar-Boznai, and their fellow servants the Apharsachaeans, who were on this side of the river, sent to King Darius.

And Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, Shebna, and Joah said to Rabshakeh, Speak now to your servants in the Syrian language, for we understand it; and speak not with us in the Jewish language; and why do you speak in the ears of the people that are on the wall?

Then Eliakim, Shebna and Joah said to him, Speak to your servants in the Syrian tongue; for we understand [it]; and speak not to us in the Jewish tongue; and why do you speak in the ears of the men on the wall?

And the Chaldeans spoke to the king in the Syrian language, [saying], O king, live forever: tell the dream to your servants, and we will declare the interpretation.
