Eliaph and Ahijah son of Shisha, scribes; and Jehoshaphat son of Ahilud, recorder.

And [overseers were] over the burden bearers, and over all the workmen in the respective works; and of the Levites [were appointed] scribes, judges, and porters.

this Ezra came up out of Babylon; and he was a skilled scribe in the Law of Moses, which the Lord God of Israel had given. And the king granted him [leave], for the hand of the Lord his God was upon him in all things which he sought.

And the seventh month arrived, and the children of Israel [were settled] in their cities. And all the people were gathered as one man to the broad place before the Water Gate, and they told Ezra the scribe to bring the Book of the Law of Moses, which the Lord commanded Israel.

Then a certain scribe approached, and said to Him, "Teacher, I will follow You wherever You go."

Then He said to them, "Therefore every scribe having become a disciple in the kingdom of heaven is like a householder who brings out of his treasure new and old [things]."

Then Jesus spoke to the crowds and to His disciples,

saying: "The scribes and the Pharisees sit on Moses' seat.

These [are] the sons of Levi according to the houses of their fathers; chiefs of their families according to their numbering, according to the number of their names, according to their polls, doing the works of service of the house of the Lord, from twenty years old and upward.
