And it came to pass, when the time of year had come for kings to go out [to battle], that David sent Joab, and his servants with him, and all Israel; and they destroyed the children of Ammon, and besieged Rabbath; but David remained at Jerusalem.

And the prophet came to the king of Israel, and said, Strengthen yourself, and observe, and see what you shall do; for in the spring of the year the son of Hadad king of Syria shall come up against you.

And it came to pass at the return of the year, that the son of Hadad reviewed Syria, and went up to Aphek to war against Israel.

Then Elisha died, and they buried him. And the bands of the Moabites came into the land, at the beginning of the year.

And Joab fought against Rabbah of the children of Ammon, and took the royal city.

And it came to pass when David came to Manahaim, that Shobi the son of Nahash of Rabbah of the sons of Ammon, and Machir son of Ammiel of Lo Debar, and Barzillai the Gileadite of Rogelim,

Therefore behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will cause a tumult of wars to be heard in Rabbah; and they shall become a waste and ruined place, and her altars shall be burned with fire; then shall Israel succeed to his dominion.

Howl, O Heshbron, for Ai has perished; cry, you daughters of Rabbah, gird yourselves with sackcloth, and lament; for Milcom shall go into banishment, his priests and his princes together.

that the sword may enter in upon Rabbah of the children of Ammon, and upon Judea, and upon Jerusalem in the midst thereof.

And I will give up the city of Ammon for camels' pastures, and the children of Ammon for a pasture of sheep; and you shall know that I am the Lord.

And I will kindle a fire on the walls of Rabbah, and it shall devour her foundations with shouting in the day of war, and she shall be shaken in the days of her destruction:

And it came to pass while Joab was watching against the city, that he set Uriah in a place where he knew that valiant men were.

And Joab sent, and reported to David all the events of the war, so as to tell them to the king.

then it shall come to pass if the anger of the king shall arise, and he shall say to you, Why did you draw near to the city to fight? Did you not know that they would shoot from off the wall?

And the messenger of Joab went to the king to Jerusalem, and he came and reported to David all that Joab had told him, all the affairs of the war. And David was very angry with Joab, and said to the messenger, Why did you draw near to the wall to fight? Did you not know that you would be wounded from off the wall? Who struck Abimelech the son of Jerubbaal? Did not a woman cast upon him a piece of millstone from the wall, and he died in Thebez? Why did you draw near to the wall?

And the archers shot at your servants from off the wall, and some of the king's servants died, and your servant Uriah the Hittite is dead also.

And Joab fought against Rabbah of the children of Ammon, and took the royal city.

And now gather the rest of the people, and encamp against the city, and take it beforehand; lest I take the city first, and it be called by my name.

And he took the crown of Molchom their king from off his head, and the weight of it was a talent of gold, with precious stones, and it was upon the head of David; and he carried forth very much spoil of the city.
