Now there was a famine in the land, and Abram went down to Egypt to sojourn there, because the famine prevailed in the land.

And Abraham journeyed from there to the southern country, and dwelt between Kadesh and Shur, and sojourned in Gerar.

And He said to him, I am the God of your fathers; fear not to go down into Egypt, for I will make of you a great nation there.

And they took up their goods, and all their property, which they had gotten in the land of Canaan, and they came into the land of Egypt; Jacob, and all his seed with him.
