And the sons of Reuben the firstborn of Israel (for he [was] the firstborn; but because of his going up to his father's couch, [his father] gave his blessing to his son Joseph, [even] the son of Israel; and he was not reckoned as firstborn;

for Judah [was] very mighty even among his brethren, and one was to be a ruler out of him: but the blessing [was] Joseph's).
3
The sons of Reuben the firstborn of Israel [were] Hanoch, Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi.
4
The sons of Joel [were] Shemaiah, and Benaiah his son; and Gog his son, and Shimei his son.
5
His son [was] Micah, his son Reaiah, his son Joel,
6
his son Baal, whom Tiglath-Pileser king of Assyria carried away captive; he [is] the chief of the Reubenites.
7
And his brethren in his family, in their distribution according to their generations: the chief, Jeiel, and Zechariah.
8
And Bela the son of Azaz, the son of Shema, the son of Joel; he dwelt in Aroer, and even to Nebo, and Baal Meon.
9
And he dwelt eastward to the borders of the wilderness, from the River Euphrates; for they had much cattle in the land of Gilead.
10
And in the days of Saul they made war [with the Hagrites]; and they fell into their hands, all of them dwelling in their tents eastward of Gilead.
Numbers 32:33-42
33
And Moses gave to them, even to the sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben, and to the half tribe of Mannasseh of the sons of Joseph, the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites, and the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, the land and its cities with its coasts, the cities of the land round about.

And the sons of Gad built Dibon, Ataroth, Aroer,
35
Sophar, Jazer, and they set them up,
36
and Nimrah, and Beth Haran, strong cities, and folds for sheep.
37
And the sons of Reuben built Heshbon, Elealeh, and Kirjathaim,
38
and Baal Meon, surrounded [with walls], and Shibma; and they called the names of the cities which they built, after their own names.
39
And a son of Machir the son of Mannasseh went to Gilead, and took it, and destroyed the Amorites who dwelt in it.
40
And Moses gave Gilead to Machir the son of Mannasseh, and he dwelt there.
41
And Jair the son of Mannasseh went and took their villages, and called them the villages of Jair.
42
And Nobah went and took Kohath and her villages, and called them Nobah after his name.
Deuteronomy 3:12-16
12
And we inherited that land at that time from Ar, which is by the border of the torrent Arnon, and half the mount of Gilead; and I gave his cities to Reuben and to Gad.
13
And the rest of Gilead, and all Bashan the kingdom of Og I gave to the half-tribe of Manasseh, and all the country round about Argob, all that Bashan; it shall be accounted the land of Rephaim.
14
And Jair the son of Manasseh took all the country round about Argob as far as the borders of Gargasi and Machathi: he called them by his name Bashan Thavoth Jair, until this day.

And to Machir I gave Gilead.
16
And to Reuben and to Gad I gave [the land] under Gilead as far as the brook of Arnon, the border between the brook and as far as Jabbok; the brook [is] the border to the children of Ammon.
Joshua 13:7-32

And now divide this land by lot to the nine tribes, and to the half-tribe of Manasseh.
8
From the Jordan to the Great Sea westward you shall give it [them.] The Great Sea shall be the boundary. [But] to the two tribes and to the half-tribe of Manasseh, to Reuben and to Gad, Moses gave [an inheritance] beyond the Jordan: Moses the servant of the Lord gave [it] to them eastward,
9
from Aroer, which is on the bank of the Brook of Arnon, and the city in the midst of the valley, and all the plain of Medeba as far as Dibon.
10
All the cities of Sihon king of the Amorites, who reigned from Heshbon to the coasts of the children of Ammon;
11
and the region of Gilead, and the borders of the Geshirites and the Maachathites, and all Mount Hermon, and all the land of Bashan to Salcah.
12
All the kingdom of Og in the region of Bashan, who reigned in Ashtaroth and in Edrei- he was left of the giants; and Moses struck him, and destroyed him.
13
But the children of Israel destroyed not the Geshurite and the Maachathite and the Canaanite; and the king of the Geshurite and the Maachathite dwelt among the children of Israel to this day.
14
Only no inheritance was given to the tribe of Levi: the Lord God of Israel, He [is] their inheritance, as the Lord said to them; and this [is] the division which Moses made to the children of Israel in Araboth Moab, on the other side of the Jordan, by Jericho.
15
And Moses gave the land to the tribe of Reuben according to their families.
16
And their borders were from Aroer, which is opposite the Brook of Arnon, and [theirs is] the city that is in the valley of Arnon; and all Misor,
17
to Heshbon, and all the cities in Misor, Dibon, Bamoth Baal, Beth Baal Meon,
18
Bashan, Kedamoth, Mephaath,
19
Kirjathaim, Sibmah, Zereth, Shahar in Mount Enab,
20
Beth Peor, the slopes of Pisgah, Beth Jeshimoth-
21
and all the cities of Misor, and all the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites, whom Moses struck, even him and the princes of Midian: Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur, and Reba, prince of the spoils of Sihon, dwelling in the country.
22
And Balaam the son of Beor the prophet they killed in the battle.
23
And the borders of Reuben were the banks of the Jordan. This [is] the inheritance of the children of Reuben according to their families, the cities and their villages.
24
And Moses gave inheritance to the sons of Gad according to their families.
25
And their borders were Jazer, all the cities of Gilead, and half the land of the children of Ammon to the Arabah, which is before Arad.
26
And from Heshbon to Ramath by Mizpah, and Betonim, and from Mahanaim to the borders of Debir,
27
and in the valley of Beth Haram, Beth Nimrah, Succoth, and Zaphon, and the rest of the kingdom of Sihon king of Heshbon; and the Jordan shall be the boundary as far as part of the Sea of Chinnereth beyond the Jordan eastward.
28
This [is] the inheritance of the children of Gad according to their families and according to their cities; according to their families they will turn their backs before their enemies, because their cities and their villages were according to their families.
29
And Moses gave to half the tribe of Manasseh according to their families.
30
And their borders were from Mahanaim, and all the kingdom of Bashan, and all the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, and all the villages of Jair, which are in the region of Bashan, sixty cities;
31
half of Gilead, and in Ashtaroth, and in Edrei, royal cities of Og in the land of Bashan, [Moses gave] to the sons of Machir the sons of Manasseh, even to the half-tribe sons of Machir the sons of Manasseh, according to their families.
32
These [are] they whom Moses caused to inherit beyond the Jordan in Araboth Moab, beyond the Jordan by Jericho, eastward.
Joshua 14:3
But to the Levites he gave no inheritance among them.
Joshua 22:1-10
1
Then Joshua called together the sons of Reuben, and the sons of Gad, and the half-tribe of Manasseh,
2
and said to them, You have heard all that Moses the servant of the Lord commanded you, and you have hearkened to my voice in all that he commanded you.
3
You have not deserted your brethren these many days. Until this day you have kept the commandment of the Lord your God.
4
And now the Lord our God has given our brethren rest, as He told them. Now then, return and depart to your homes, and to the land of your possession, which Moses gave you on the other side of the Jordan.
5
But take great heed to do the commands and the law which Moses the servant of the Lord commanded you to do; to love the Lord our God, to walk in all His ways, to keep His commands, and to cleave to Him, and serve Him with all your mind, and with all your soul.
6
And Joshua blessed them, and dismissed them; and they went to their homes.
7
And to [one] half the tribe of Manasseh Moses gave a portion in the land of Bashan, and to [the other] half Joshua gave a portion with his brethren on the other side of the Jordan westward: and when Joshua sent them away to their homes, then he blessed them.
8
And they departed with much wealth to their houses, and they divided the spoil of their enemies with their brethren; very much livestock, and silver, and gold, and iron, and much clothing.
9
So the sons of Reuben, and the sons of Gad, and the half-tribe of Manasseh, departed from the children of Israel in Shiloh in the land of Canaan, to go away into Gilead, into the land of their possession, which they inherited by the command of the Lord, by the hand of Moses.
10
And they came to Gilead of the Jordan, which is in the land of Canaan. And the children of Reuben, and the children of Gad, and the half-tribe of Manasseh built there an alter by the Jordan, a great altar to look at.
