The third for the third month [was] Benaiah the son of Jehoiada the chief priest; and in his division [were] twenty-four thousand.

This Benaiah [was] more mighty than the thirty, and over the thirty; and Ammizabad his son [was] over his division.

and Benaiah son of Jehoida [was] counselor, and the Cherethite and the Pelethite and the sons of David were princes of the court.

And Joab [was] over all he forces of Israel, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada [was] over the Cherethites and over the Pelethites.

And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, he was abundant in [mighty] deeds, from Kabzeel, and he killed the two sons of Ariel of Moab: and he went down and killed a lion in the midst of a pit on a snowy day.

These things did Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and he had a name among the three mighty men.

But Zadok the priest, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and Nathan the prophet, and Shimei, and Rei, and the mighty men of David, did not follow Adonijah.

And Zadok the priest went down, and Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah son of Jehoiada, and the Cherethites, and the Pelethites, and they mounted Solomon upon the mule of King David, and led him away to Gihon.

And Benaiah son of Jehoiada came to Joab to the tabernacle of the Lord, and said to him, Thus says the king, Come forth. And Joab said, I will not come forth, for I will die here. And Benaiah son of Jehoiada returned and spoke to the king, saying, Thus has Joab spoken, and thus has he answered me.

So Benaiah son of Jehoiada went up, and attacked him, and killed him, and buried him in his house in the wilderness.

And the king appointed Benaiah son of Jehoiada in his place over the army; and the kingdom was established in Jerusalem. And [as for] Zadok the priest, the king appointed him to be high priest in place of Abiathar. And Solomon son of David reigned over Israel and Judah in Jerusalem. And the Lord gave understanding to Solomon, and very much wisdom, and largeness of heart, as the sand by the seashore.

And their cities were cities belonging to the tribe of the children of Judah on the borders of Edom by the wilderness, and Kabzeel, Eder, Jagur,

And from Gad these separated themselves to David from the wilderness, strong mighty men of war, bearing shields and spears, and their faces [were as] the faces of lions, and they were as nimble as gazelles upon the mountains in speed:

Saul and Jonathan, the beloved and the beautiful, were not divided: comely [were they] in their life, and in their death they were not divided: [they were] swifter than eagles, and they were stronger than lions.

And Sampson and his father and his mother went down to Timnah, and he came to the vineyard of Timnah. And behold, a young lion roared in meeting him.

And the Spirit of the Lord came powerfully upon him, and he crushed [the lion] as he would have crushed a young goat, and there was nothing in his hands. And he did not tell his father or his mother what he had done.

And David said to Saul, Your servant was tending the flock for his father, and when a lion came and a bear, and took a lamb out of the flock,

Your servant has killed both the lion and the bear, and the uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them! Shall I not go and kill him, and remove this day [this] reproach from Israel? For who is this uncircumcised one, who has defied the army of the living God?
