And Ahab said to Elijah, Have you found me, O my enemy? And he said, I have found [you]; because you have wickedly sold yourself to work evil in the sight of the Lord, to provoke Him to anger;

And Ahab did that which was evil in the sight of the Lord, and did more wickedly than all that were before him.

And he set up an alter to Baal, in the house of his abominations, which he built in Samaria.

There was no king like him before him, who turned to the Lord with all his heart, and with all his soul, and with all his strength, according to all the Law of Moses; and after him there rose none like him.

And Ahab said to Elijah, Have you found me, O my enemy? And he said, I have found [you]; because you have wickedly sold yourself to work evil in the sight of the Lord, to provoke Him to anger;

And they caused their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire, and practiced divinations and soothsaying, and sold themselves to work wickedness in the sight of the Lord, to provoke Him.

Thus says the Lord, Of what kind is your mother's bill of divorcement, by which I put her away? Or to which debtor have I sold you? Behold, you are sold for your sins, and for your iniquities have I put your mother away.

For thus says the Lord, You have been sold for nought; and you shall not be ransomed with silver.

I speak in human terms on account of the weakness of your flesh. For just as you presented your members as slaves to uncleanness, and to lawlessness [resulting] in [more] lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves to righteousness [resulting] in sanctification.

For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am carnal, having been sold under sin.

And Jezebel his wife said to him, Do you now thus act [this way, being] king over Israel? Arise, and eat bread, and be your own [master], and I will give you the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite.

And King Solomon was a lover of women. And he took strange women, as well as the daughter of Pharaoh, Moabite and Ammonite women, Syrians and Edomites, Hittites and Amorites;

And he had seven hundred wives, princesses, and three hundred concubines. And the strange women turned away his heart after their gods.

And it was not enough for him to walk in the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, but he took Jezabel the daughter of Ethebaal king of the Sidonians for a wife; and he went and served Baal, and worshipped him.

And it came to pass when Jezabel had killed the prophets of the Lord, that Obadiah took a hundred prophets, and hid them by fifties in a cave, and fed them with bread and water.

And Jezebel sent to Elijah, and said, If you are Elijah and I am Jezebel, God do so to me and more also, if I do not make your life by this time tomorrow as the life of one of them!

The mouth of a transgressor is a deep pit, and he that is hated of the Lord shall fall into it. [ 22:14A] Evil ways are before a man, and he does not like to turn away from them, but it is needful to turn aside from a perverse and bad way.

And I find her [to be], and I will pronounce [to be] more bitter than death, the woman which is a snare, and her heart nets, [who has] a band in her hands. [He that is] good in the sight of God shall be delivered from her; but the sinner shall be caught by her.

For Herod himself had sent and laid hold of John, and bound him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip's wife; because he had married her.

Therefore Herodias held a grudge against him and was desiring to kill him, but she was not able;

And when an opportune day arrived, when Herod for his birthday festivities was putting on a supper for his nobles, the high officers, and the chief men of Galilee.

He also swore to her, "Whatever you may ask me, I will give you, up to half of my kingdom."

Immediately she came in with haste to the king and she requested, saying, "I want you to give me at once the head of John the Baptist on a platter."

And immediately the king, having sent an executioner, commanded his head to be brought. And having departed, he beheaded him in the prison,

And they aroused the people and the elders and the scribes; and coming upon him, they seized him, and led him to the council.

But the disbelieving Jews aroused and embittered the souls of the Gentiles against the brothers.
