And he conferred with Joab the son of Zeruiah, and with Abiathar the priest, and they followed after Adonijah.

And now, behold, Adonijah reigns, and you, my lord, O king, know [it] not.

And he has sacrificed calves and lambs and sheep in abundance, and has called all the king's sons, and Abiathar the priest and Joab the commander-in-chief of the army; but Solomon your servant he has not called.

And that I am this day a [mere] kinsman [of his], and [as it were] a subject; but these men the sons of Zeruiah are too harsh for me: the Lord reward the evildoer according to his wickedness.

And the king commanded Joab and Abishai and Ittai, saying, Spare the young man Absalom for my sake. And all the people heard the king charging all the commanders concerning Absalom.

And the man said to Joab, Were I even to receive a thousand shekels of silver, I would not lift my hand against the king's son; for in our ears the king charged you and Abishai and Ittai, saying, Take care of the young man Absalom for me,

And Joab said, I will begin this; I will not thus remain with you. And Joab took three spears in his hand, and thrust them into the heart of Absalom, while he was yet alive in the heart of the oak.

And Joab went in to the king, into the house, and said, You have this day shamed the faces of all your servants that have delivered you this day, and [have saved] the lives of your sons and of your daughters, and the lives of your wives, and of your concubines,

And now arise and go forth, and speak comfortably to your servants; for I have sworn by the Lord, that unless you will go forth this day, there shall not a man remain with you this night. And know for yourself, this thing [will] indeed [be] evil to you beyond all the evil that has come upon you from your youth until now.

And he brought back Abner to Hebron, and Joab caused him to turn aside from the gate to speak to him, laying wait for him; and he stabbed him there in the loins, and he died for the blood of Asahel the brother of Joab.

And Amasa observed not the dagger that was in the hand of Joab. And Joab struck him with it on the loins, and his bowels were shed out upon the ground, and he did not repeat the blow, and he died. And Joab and Abishai his brother pursued after Sheba the son of Bichri.

And Absalom appointed Amasa over the army, in the place of Joab. And Amasa was the son of a man whose name was Jether of Jezreel: he went in to Abigail the daughter of Nahash, the sister of Zeruiah the mother of Joab.

and in your hands have been found the blood of innocent souls; I have not found them in holes, but on every oak.

They were ashamed because they failed; yet they were not ashamed as those who were [truly] ashamed, and they knew not their own disgrace; therefore shall they [utterly] fall when they do fall, and in the time of visitation shall they perish, says the Lord.

For her blood is in the midst of her; I have set it upon a smooth rock; I have not poured it out upon the earth, so that the earth should cover it;

that My wrath should come up for complete vengeance to be taken; I set her blood upon a smooth rock, so as not to cover it.
