Now the three sons of Zeruiah were there, Joab, Abishai, and Asahel: and Asahel was swift in his feet as a wild gazelle in the field.

For Joab and Abishai his brother laid wait continually for Abner, because he slew Asahel their brother at Gibeon in the battle.

And the rest of the people he gave into the hand of Abishai his brother, and they set the battle in array opposite to the children of Ammon.

And the children of Ammon saw that the Syrians had fled, and they fled from before Abishai, and entered into the city. And Joab returned from the children of Ammon, and came to Jerusalem.

And David sent the people away, a third part under the hand of Joab, a third part under the hand of Abishai the son of Zeruiah, the brother of Joab, and a third part under the hand of Ittai the Gittite. And David said to the people, I also will surely go out with you.

And Amasa observed not the dagger that was in the hand of Joab. And Joab struck him with it on the loins, and his bowels were shed out upon the ground, and he did not repeat the blow, and he died. And Joab and Abishai his brother pursued after Sheba the son of Bichri.

And David answered and spoke to Abimelech the Hittite, and to Abishai the son of Zeruiah, the brother of Joab, saying, Who will go in with me to Saul into the camp? And Abishai said, I will go in with you.

And Abishai said to David, The Lord has delivered your enemy into your hands this day, and now I will strike him to the earth with this spear, once [for all], and I will not have to strike him again.

And their sisters [were] Zeruiah and Abigail. And the sons of Zeruiah [were] Abishai, Joab, and Asahel, three.

And Abishai the brother of Joab, he was chief of [another] three; he drew his sword against three hundred [men] at one time and killed them; and he had a name among the [second] three.

He was more famous than the two [others] among the three, and he was chief [ove]r them; yet he reached not to the [first] three.
